I think that it's not so much that they are more neglected compared it's 1980's peers, rather that when they get to this stage it's commendable that they are resurected at all. An '80s Corvette, say, that had been exported to ME, would probably be in worse condition, but no-one would take the effort to re-import it to US or UK and then restore it.

Both good points guys, did the Corvette sell for a similar price though?

According to the Car & Driver group test in 81, the D they tested was $25,600, the Corvette was $19,000 and the 911SC was $34,200.

So yes, the vette was initally cheaper, but I think by the time the ME cars came out, the D's list price had reduced in the States.

Do you have any idea of the price of these three cars would have been in ME at the time Alistair? I wonder how similar they would have been there.

I would contend, also, that a 1981 911SC left in a similar environment would have suffered a worse fate.

Hi Dermot

I dont have any idea right now...but I have it written down and also prices that owners I have been able to speak to paid, for instance the dealership in Kuwait sold the last few very cheap....as the news filtered through and no-one had any confidence in being able to get spares etc.

Myself and James Espey are writing a major article on the Middle East cars, James has actually held a conversation with the English guy who ran the Kuwati dealership ( who still works there and owned two DeLoreans ) after we both tracked him down almost simultaneously, I have heard the conversation that was recorded and to me it was riveting.

Nice mark-up if you can get it.

I just hope no-one buys it at that price.

As a club, and I know a venture like this would require funding, but could we not buy up old bangers for restoration/parts that were cheap enough???

I would never burden anyone with *camel toe* car, I have to much repsect for fellow members and enthusiasts to put them through that, I wonder if our transalantic cousins from Houston would be interested in it???

I know Josh Haldeman buys up ones that have been left to perish or ones that have been in a fight. I spoke to him in Vegas about it, I just thought whether it would be cost effective, and maybe with enough investor(s) whether this venture would be finically viable from a club point of view and either bust them up for parts or restore them and out them???
I Ken Konceliek has a raffle car as well at his shows, they must have bought those cars through their clubs

To genuinely Honest, *camel Toe* was bought in to bust up, and I wish I had now. instead I ended up doing the reverse of what I had planned, and my first car I have used as a donor. Once *camel toe* car is done which hopefully won't be to long, I will probably spend the rest of the year decorating because I'm being nagged, and then I'm going to start to do a chassis off restoration on my first car next year if time permitts, and once that is done sell *camel toe* car, thats the plan, whether is goes that way or not is a different kettle of fish!!!
