Yeah, its odd. It started doing it on a trip to the uk in july.
Its a rattle when driving over bumps and then a creaking/clunk when you brake/accelerate or get out of the car after driving (ie load/unload suspension).

Arm Bushes look fine and springs have only been on 9 months. Only odd thing i can see is the rubber in the base of the shock seems to have moved (as though the shock bushing has moved)

Quite a few of the cars with the old UK built lowering springs clunked in exactly these situations (including mine) - was the front springs rotating. Removing and turning them upside may help, or replacing them...

Make sure your front body bolts are tight too (my thunking at the front when I first got mine was due to these not being tight) ;)

I'm hoping to get a chance to pop to the local hobbywerkstatt in the next week or so,
they've got a couple of lifts so i can have a good look underneath it.

interestingly having just been out for lunch, the clicking noise that seems to be associated with the drivers side front wheel rotating is now back.
(it went away after having the tyres changed)

hadn't considered that.
the angle drive was replaced just after i bought the car but then the suspensions been apart quite a few times since then.

certainly worth checking.

off the top of my head, here's a list of some of the work done in the last 12 months
(for most of which i have to thank Wolfgang Hank and Ed Uding!)

gear shift repaired (moving the stick was in effect moving the entire linkage making it almost impossible to get into first gear)
fog lights rewired as parking lights + red rear side reflectors replaced with amber ones.
vin number stamped on frame(at the German DVLA's insistence)
unspecified unspeakable things done to hand brake to make it worse(at German TUV's insistence!)
new stainless brakelines (to replace the stainless ones that were already there but didn't have a TUV stamp on them, thanks germany!)
new front wheel
new front lower control arm
new DMCE front springs
new radiator + fan cowling (my fault on some cobble stones)
new fuse box
new blower motor
new DMCE stainless roofbox
new AC low pressure switch
new rear wheel bearings
new stainless fuel lines
new injectors
new stereo

to do
do something (anything) to improve the brakes!
sort out the creaking/clunking coming from the front. (hopefully my new shocks will help)

Simon.

been a while so i figured i'd update this list as best i can remember, some minor some major. (again bulk of the thanks to Ed and Wolfgang)

leaky washer bottle plugged
new fuel tank
new head gasket + full top end engine service
new belts
DMCE front brake upgrade(calipers and disks)
new shocks front and back
back of drivers seat repaired so it now stays on.
new rear light boards
full gearbox rebuild in new casing (twice)
new clutch pressure plate
new clutch throw-out bearing
repaired/reinforced gearshift
wiring to cold start valve fixed
warm start relay fitted
