Pretty easy Carl - I've done it more than once! Only complications are in the re-attaching of the engine cover release cable when you put it back on. Fiddly job.

From memory, remove tail lights, number plate bezel. Remove small screws around bottom sides of fascia. Disconnect engine cover release cable. Then two big nuts either side in the engine bay. Leave the ones on the side, you just need to undo the ones on the back side of the fascia. Then it should just come straight off. (Unless you've got a power aerial which is held on through the fascia too).

Think that's it. Sure someone can pipe up if I've forgotten something!

Cheers Gez - sounds simple enough - cable aside!

I think I might leave some of those nuts/screws on the fascia to soak in WD overnight before attempting to remove them...!

Having the back bumper off is the best thing to do if you need to do some stuff on your engine. No more leaning over.

What's the further story on VIN#11777? Has the rear bumper been taken off yet?

Hi guys, not an update as such - just reloading some of the pics which seemed to have been corrupted in my earlier posts on this thread... For those of you who haven't read my story, enjoy! :D

P.S. I still have not removed the bumper... :?

UPDATE!

Almost 10 years to the day we said the next step would be to take the rear bumper off. Today it happened… And it was all a bit of an anticlimax…

As you can see the number on the frame matches the VIN (11777). The question is, is this the original frame?

The photo below suggests some tampering and welding on the back of the chassis…

Finally, thanks to Alistair, we were able to identify the evidence of a yellow label on the back of the frame and impact foam, which all the Middle Eastern cars had. You can just make out the words in the pic below.

So, still no closer to the truth, but my gut feeling is this is still not 11777 and that someone down the lone has covered their tracks.

Carl, do you think a non-Irish hand wrote the number on?

Yep, interesting stuff, love a bit of history on these cars!
