Hi both, some good ideas there. Unplugging the idle speed motor had zero effect on the idle speed, so maybe that has a problem. If you remember Nick I had the opposite problem last year where, when cold you had to keep your foot on the throttle or it would die.Turned out to be the ecu then and I re-built it with all new IC's and transistors. That solved the problem right out that time. Maybe it didn't like the engine being touched, but it would seem odd for that to go pop.
I took the car out for a drive to see what it was like with the high idle. Nightmare is the word! It wants to be at 2000 rpm min all the time, so keeping it under the speed limit is a chore. It is possible to drive though, but not a good idea in slow traffic. On top of everything the speedo has now stopped working! These @#&$ing cars! One getting back home the idle was at 3000 rpm instead!
The above being the case I'm wondering if the butterfly valve isn't closing all the way. I did take part of it out to recondition. Maybe the deceleration springs are sticking open as well?
Some good points as well Mark. Although as I'm moving on Tuesday I can see myself having "just another look" tomorrow. Failing that I may be bringing it up to you Nick for a tech session.
Watching For the Love of Cars has put a smile on my face. I will sort it I'm sure. The cars is just protesting for some reason.
