10mm is hardly going to affect it, and even then you are getting a quality road tyre with stiffer sidewalls (supposedly), help to counter act the awful body roll maybe?

£45 for the correct size? If so jump all over it.

1 search on google of less than a minute turns up 5 options in the correct size.

The P6000 has been discontinued since 2011, no chance of getting those for the front. It's a wonder they still produce batches of the P600 for the rear. Unless you're particularly anal about wanting P600's I'd just put some continental conti sports in the front, and some general grabbers or nankangs on the back.

As they say, an inch is as good as a mile. It's not just the width that's smaller when you drop down to 225, the height is also smaller so gives the car the appearance that it's leaning back slightly. User choice at the end of the day I guess, but I know what I'll be sticking with so long as they continue to be available.

He travels the UK - runs his own tyre business - yup that's the prices quoted - at least it will get the car on the road.

So I move on to the next phase of my refurb of Vin 11789. Getting it started! I have to install the new fuel tank /rad/fans/pipework/water pump. The new tank is unused, but a previous owner has installed a replacement pump and sender. (I know that because the old ones are in the boxes of bits that came with it). I'm going to install the vent pipe and take a look at the pump - see what's in there. Is it possible to check the pump works even when it is dry ?- there is no fuel in the tank (and never has been).
Can I use a 12 V battery to see if "it works"? On a side note, a retired Volvo mechanic who knows the PRV inside out, came to look at it on Sunday and will help me understand the engine. The initial indicators fill me with dread! All the pipe work is out ready for replacement so the otterstat pipe was hanging limply in the engine bay - I see no wires that should run to it but ...... the (concertina) water pump pipe (left side) deposited a pile of rust - there is (was) a piece of wire coiled up like a spring that had rusted out. Ok no big worries , but as I took the thermostat pipe off a chunk of the outlet was missing replaced by white deposits. The engine turns great by hand - but seeing the white deposit filled me with dread!!

Can you post some pictures ? Can't have been any coolant in the system with no pipework- it prob evaporated years ago
I would take the engine out now and remove the heads and see what you have - it's the only way to clear the galleries correctly if they are indeed blocked

I'll take some photos tonight.
Yeah it hasn't had any coolant in it for quite sometime - no rad etc.
Reading a lot online some guys (and it has been said here) fire up engines that have been left standing with no problem - just routine maintenance. I hope that mine falls into this category? With this in mind I really don't want to pull the engine at this stage - can't the heads come off in situ?

Well yes , but some of those engines then have to be pulled out for work

It all depends how severe the corrison is
It may be possible to flush the block

It's difficult to tell at the moment without some pictures etc

here's two photos. one of the pipe that had the rusty steel spring inside - that's no biggie, and a photo of the thermostat case with the corroded chunk.
