A Van wrote:I agree def worth getting the gearbox professionally rebuilt, most of the parts are still available but some are getting scarce, I do have another auto trans and also some spares if you get stuck.

Also rebuilding the shift computer is an absolute must!

I have been tempted to get one of Jeff Angwin's production run from the states for the Auto Trans Governor. http://www.dmctalk.com/showthread.php?t=12704

I know i'm stupid, but "shift computer" - what is one of those then?

Bearing in mind the ZX81 was released at the same time as the DeLorean I'm a bit worried......

If and when I get that far I will certainly give you a shout. Right now I am wrestling with some impressively torqued drive shafts, making lists of what I will need, making sure it is here when I need it and telling greedy shipping companies where to go lol

It's the bit of electronics that chooses when to change gear in an auto. It's not a computer by any stretch of the definition - a relatively simple analogue circuit based around a couple of op-amps and fet switches. Elegant simplicity, had it been properly designed to withstand the heat and spikes the unit is susceptible to.

Just as I finally get a good deal on shipping Paul O'Malley finds a facility in Ireland large enough to accomodate a chassis. I am waiting on the first chassis being done next week so I can get an idea of quality and price. Don't know who owns the guinea pig chassis or where the facility is but should depending on price could save me £150 plus VAT :D
