The reason why owners remove the striker on the engine hood latch is because they get stuck/jam and they are an absolute pig to release. I think my louvre locks to the engine cover, but the engine cover justs sits on top. I personnelly have had no issues with it moving about whilst driving, but then i only drive mine to the end of the drive and then put it back in the garage religiously every 3 months, but maybe if your driving is abit more rigorous and you maybe do off roading in your D, maybe you could use a bungy cord to hold it to stop it rattling about???

Funnily enough, I was just looking at it all last night... it appears that the engine cover locking mechanism is working fine, I'm just missing the loop that is attached to the cover. Luckily, that part seems to be available from Ed so I'll get one ordered!!

Changed the struts all round last night too :dmcdoors: - much easier than I was expecting - felt like a right mechanic!! 8-)

Ok that's good news !

Hi Guys, sorry, its me again, the latest noob at the Delorean table... :violin:

I received the latch hook thing, (number 50 on the exploded view) from Ed the other day. I went to fit it thinking I'd mastered this mechanic thing and to my horror, the thread on the latch hook thing doesn't fit into the engine cover, it doesn't even touch the sides of the hole and there appears to be no thread in the hole on the engine cover. Am I missing a part do you think?? Having not seen another one, I don't know what it's supposed to look like.

Any advice??

Sounds like the thread insert is missing which is a real pain I have seen a workaround I will try to find it

Yeah this is what I think may be the case as that would explain why the latch hook thing was missing in the first place.

Especially as the actual latching mechanism seems to be working fine when I pull the handle behind the seat.

Hopefully it won't require a whole new engine cover!

Mines exactly the same. I'm going to get a threaded insert made up that is a snug fit in the engine cover hole and glue it in.
