I would like to start compiling a list of the various bits it would be a good idea to have before Gez-tec.

Here are two for the list - but I have questions around both...

Clutch
Where best to get one from?
Can I tell if my old one is shagged when we change the engine?
i.e. If it's not, Dan would you want to take this new one off my hands?

Engine mounts
Where do I get them from? Any cross match or just get them from Ed?

I tried clutch from various suppliers, but for now i had the better with the original clutches from Ed, wich sells the original Valeo renault Alpine replacement, or look around for an original valeo Alpine D501 clutch.
SpecialT has a lot of different clutches, i had experience with the Kevlar one and his organic with more surface, but was not satisfied with either...
You will see how your clutch is when you will desmant the engine, however i still have to see a good clutch coming out of a delorean engine ! Seems that the american are not able to use clutches ^^ or are a bit underengeneered...
The engine mounts is easier from Ed, wich seels the remade oem Paulstra one's, or the DMCH ones.

You can easily tell if your original clutch is "shagged", by the thickness of the face linings. They are rivoted onto the centre plate of the clutch, either side. The linings should be proud of the rivots by at least a few mm. (ie the rivots are below the surface of the friction linings) As the clutch wears then the linings get thinner (much like brakes) A new clutch on average will have linings around 5-6mm thick (but depends on brand) and the rivots a good 3mm below the surface.

You should also check for cracking, crumbling or burning of the linings, and scoring of the faces of both clutch, flywheel and pressure plate.

You can get a clutch from any German and Swedish from around £90 I seem to recall.

Thanks Cineman & Darren! So you reckon if I just call up GSF and say I want an Alpine D501 clutch they'll be able to sort me out? And do I just need to be looking to replace the clutch plates (most likely)? This bit... http://www.delorean.eu/catalog/product_ ... s_id=82010

You do need to check the pressure plate for "blueing" (overheat) or scoring, and after a long time the springs may weaken. Your better off getting a kit. You also get the release bearing. Your old one may be worn and "sing" or "whine" if you don't replace it when fitting a new clutch and pressure plate (sods law).

While the engines out it makes sense if the clutch is worn to just replace all the bits. If the clutch is fine then, best to put all the same bits back in.

Good luck.

As for B28E....I'd stick with the B4 engine

Thanks for all the clutch tips!

One thought has crossed my mind as my car is running quite sweetly at the moment... How would people feel about turning Gez-tec from being a Swap-tec into a Cam-tec?

Chris S was talking about a place that knows how to reshape cams and Dan Shane might have the specs for how to reshape them. I could take the cams out of the Volvo engine, get them reshaped, and then Gez-tec is where we fit them to my car - essentially creating the first ever DCUK Stage 2!

The yankees love playing with cams...

Thoughts? This way the engine remains the original unit and Darren gets slightly less upset... Also I imagine it's an easier job? Or not...? :D

I would have thought they would have all the specs listed for the PRV, give them a call and see what they say.
