I am sure that you can change the left hand side cam fairsly ok but the right hand side cam has to be pulled out against the bulkhead. You can either remove the engine or cut a hole out in the firewall (quick call DarrenC an Ambulance - heart attack!!!!!!!)

Why not put the cams and other performance goodies in the volvo engine so you have a complete original D engine on standby.
Just a thought.

Lol! So in the interests of Darren's continued good health it looks like the engine is coming out either way... :)

A good thought too... One performance engine, one stock engine...

Just spoke to Del Johnson at Kent Cams, he says they offer 3 profiles for the cams, a mild road (+10bhp), fast road (+12bhp) and ultimate road (+15bhp but may require fuelling changes). Cost is £215 + VAT.

These figures raise some interesting questions... DMCH claim 192bhp on their stage 2 which includes:
Ported/polished heads
Stainless steel headers
Performance cams
Performance cat & muffler exhaust system

So if we kindly assume that the exhaust system liberates 15bhp on top of the standard 130, then the cams, ported/polished heads and headers are responsible for almost 50bhp. This seems like rather a lot doesn't it (especially without mentioning any fuelling changes)? Methinks there is a whiff of bull$hit around the 192bhp figure...

I wouldn't go any further than a mild road. This engine is an 8 valve torquey unit.

Look at A series engines with mega fast road cams they only work above 4000 rpm due to cam timing and would be horrible to drive on a day to day basis......

Up to you though Gez, would be interesting to find out :)

Here is a video I did of Kenny's engine at the weekend. He has the DMCH Stage 2 - signed by Stephen Wynne, no less!

His exhuast is a bit louder than most, but what I noticed was how "lumpy" it sounded, if you know what I mean. I think that is normal.

Yes, from what I've read the lumpy idle is normal on cars with performance cams. Did anyone go out in Kenny's car to see what it felt like power wise?

Nick - I agree, I wouldn't go beyond the fast road profile either!

Kenny kindly let me drive his car. I had it up to 6000rpm when it really came alive. The acceleration was smooth and fast. It sounds lovely accelerating through the gears, probably a touch loud for my taste; I think even Kenny commented on his nerves after driving a few hours with the engine note lol.

Yes, the Volvo part no ends in 013, the De is 023 and I also have a 017 which I believe is the Swiss Volvo part no which the De is based on, ie with the Lambda system (FV) etc

Old thread, but here is the serial of my distributor, ending with 011 (??)

Rob, we were discussing ignition distributors before. I will check my volvo fuel distributor tomorrow thought but I'm sure the number is different to that...
