A friend of mine had a balljoint failure in a slow corner today, not at speed on the highway as he said. It wasn't a DeLorean so DMCH balljoints are not the only ones that may fail

Darren C wrote:Because we got these made so fast, he was out of stock of the circlips, he said he'd get them in on Monday for us, we can then have them supplied with the joint. You could obviously re-use your old one (if you dont damage it getting it off). But much nicer to use a new shiny one that could come with the joint.
As I've got a drawer full of useless joint's I had plenty of new circlips so fitted one of those today. The joint comes with nylocks, you can request a hole for a split pin, but you'd need to re-use your old nut. We can get these new, but they are blooming expensive for just one nut as again these need to be made to order. To be fair the nylock would be fine. It's just OCD geeks like me that want the "original" look with the split pin.

Hey guys, cool to see a new and hopefully perfect replacement :-)

The only thing I am afraid of is the nyloc nut.
You guys remember that recall where they changed to the castellated nuts ?
I added a picture I found years ago.

I had a nyloc nut that failed on my car. I would never ever want to experience this again. So please pelase
try to get those nuts and replace those nyloc nuts.
Added some pics, too. This happened in 2003, it was a Volkswagen part.
The nut got loose and then the cone got loose, too. Then one day it broke off in a curve, I wasn't going fast
though - what luck ! a few minutes before I was on the Autobahn...
After this I replaced the balljoints with the new Houston ones. 1500km later it was hard to keep the car going
straight on roads where you couldn't even see the tracks from the trucks. I lifted up the car and saw the excessive
play in those "new" ball joints. Houston didn't react on my emails...but 6 years later it was official :-(

The correct topic for the re-made UK ones is here: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=2282

And castle nuts are supplied as an option, if you don't want to reuse your old ones or use new Nyloc nuts. Of course if you do use Nylocs remember that they should only ever be used once.

My audi has nyloc nuts on its balljoints so they are good enough for me.

They should be fine if tightened up to the right torque. No harm in checking they are tight from time to time though as a precaution. I have nylocs on all 4 of my balljoints and no sign of any of them loosening up. I also have the new club's balljoints, and done a few thousand miles on them and no sign of wear yet.

Nylocs are fine, no problem with them at all, as long as you only use once, as already said.

I've got nyloc nuts on mine and they are still fine after about two thousand miles. I would just recommend checking they are tight every few thousand miles.
How do people manage to torque them up exactly though, you cannot get a torque wrench on those nuts so I've just done mine as tight as I was comfortable with using a spanner.

Interesting pic there though of the delorean after the crash, scary stuff
