Can you help me complete my list of items to cover during my annual service:-

oil and filter change
air filter change
coolant change
nipples to be greased
handbrake adjustment

Service is set for next week with the MOT to follow straight after

cap & rotor?

When did you last have your brake and clutch fluid replaced? This is more important than coolant, and I know you have a decent anti-freeze mix in there that was new when I did your rad - apart from a level check, I'd leave that alone.

Other service items are more a case of checking thngs are still okay - brake pads, bulbs, screenwash, tyres etc. Obvious I know but most people pay good money for that sort of thing!

Personally I would change the coolant every 12 months, regardless of what mileage.

The stuff i use is the Halfrauds 5 year guarantee stuff...

Not that i would leave it in that long but saves doing it every year

Thats a good point there Bozzzy and is often overlooked, even on modern cars.

MOT Limits for 1982 car is:

< 4.5% CO
< 1200ppm

On DeLorean on cars with cat typical readings are:

< 0.3% CO
< 50 ppm

On DeLorean on cars without cat typical readings are:

0.7 to 2.0 3% CO [1 to 1.5 % CO ideally on KE-Jetronic, 1.5 to 2.5 % CO on K-Jetronic ie Volvo conversion]
0 to 250 ppm

Thanks for the input guys.
My otterstat failed on me (I’m fitting the replacement and seal with it this weekend) and resulted in overheating/losing a fair amount of coolant (took 2.5 litres I think it was of mineral water which is all I had on me at the time to re-top up the system). So hence why I want the now diluted coolant drained and re-filled. In the meantime I have used the glove box plunger/switch to allow the fans to run whenever the car is running (thanks to Martin and Dicky for that useful bit of info).

Thanks about the point for the fuel filter. I have found it listed in the parts cross ref (thanks Bozzy) as:-

I will have these ordered.

I’ll have the cap and rotor checked (should these also be changed annually regardless?). Spark plugs were changed last year.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the cap and rotor?

Brake pads - I have the green stuff pads to go on the back as these will now need changing. The fronts were done not long ago.

The custom length (1300mm long I think it was) alternator belt isn’t that old as this was fitted to the new alternator around 8 months ago. The other belt is in good shape.

I have a nail in the shoulder of my 2000 mile old Pirelli P600 tyre. I was initially looking for a replacement but http://www.blackcircles.com and http://www.micheldever.co.uk were both out of stock. Dan at Micheldever kindly phoned Pirelli directly and found that more P600’s will be produced but Pirelli can’t confirm a date yet. I have also learnt that apparently although it is in the shoulder of the tyre it can have a ‘major repair’ done. It means running on my spacesaver for a week but the tyre will come back apparently as good as new for just £15!

Not quite sure how a 'major repair' differs to a normal repair - I've always heard that nail in the shoulder = dead tyre but if not then great

Because of the age of these engines Mike, I would still change coolant and engine oil/filter every 12 months, but thats just my personal opinion!

Hi Chris,

Ideally brake fluid should be changed every 2 years as it is hydroscopic i.e. designed to absorb moisture from the system.
Every 2 years is good enough.

Bad news and unlucky about the tyre though Chris. A major repair is where they cut the tread off and repair then re-vulcanise. I am not sure if the tyre place will guarantee it. I read in my car magazine ages ago that some of these repairs result in a speed restriction on the tyre so double check with the repair. Are there ary "part worn" places you could find a pirelli tyre to match your other?
