Afraid I have to resurrect this thread as I've been a very bad D owner. I've realised that time has ticked along since last running the car and when I get back up to the car it's likely to have been 3 months since the car last ran.

I would have got my Dad to start it but the battery has been kaput and I've needed to install the new one too (not a big job I know but not one I felt I should burden my not so mechanically adept father with).

Anyway, so the car may or may not start. I'm feeling optimistic because I'm stupid, but if I'm wrong - thought I ought to get some advice in advance so I don't bother you all with clueless phone calls on the day.

What should I do in what order if it doesn't go? (I'm assuming that 3 months isn't fuel system murder upon attempted starting...)

Cheers!

If you can put some fresh fuel in it but chances are it will start straight away :) (fingers crossed for you)

I would say 3 months isnt really long enogh for the fuel to 'go off ' but i agree with Nick sticking a bit of fresh stuff in will prob help.

I had to move my car out of where i work while some racking was being installed.

I just connected up my trusty halfords calcium battery (that I have been using in my Astra over the cold weather), turned the key to position2, the fuel pump primed the system for a couple of secs. It started up on the second turn of the engine !

I haven't run it since week before christmas so hopefully your car should start up Jez.

When I take my car in for its MOT i will fill the tank with fresh fuel and give it a run beforehand.

Ah, yes you can't beat those batteries can you! 'Ard' as nails!! :D

I left mine for just over a month before turning her over, she fires on first turn - everytime! Can't ask for more than that!!

I have noticed though that I don't always hear the fuel pump priming the system on the first turn of the key to position 2, it will only do it on every other turn... :?

I need to give her a top up of fuel and a good runout before the mini meet next week. Hmmm maybe I will take my Mum out for a treat on Sunday seeing as it's Mothers Day... I bet she'd bloody love that way more than flowers... ;)
