Any help with a Torsion bar adjustment?

Postby flux3d » Thu Sep 25, 2014 9:18 pm

Hi all,

After finally fitted Darren C's awesome new stainless steel reinforcement brackets to my doors they have been amazingly better, especially the drivers side. The brackets had seriously bent out of shape at some point, probably due to that dodgy batch of gas struts, and have never raised particularly well.
Now they are great. Smooth as silk, but just a bit too quick.

Originally, last year, I changed the gas struts and the doors still seemed rubbish. After a shout out Dicky H came over to mine and helped me out putting the torque up a spline on both sides, which helped loads. However, now after fixing the brackets the doors go up to quickly and bounce.

So, to avoid any future damage, and make them easier to close, would anyone help me put them back down to the correct torque. I would do it myself, but it was definitely a daunting task for two people last time, and I don't have the correct tools either.

Happy to travel to you. Based in Leicester, but willing to travel. Always nice to have a reason to take the car out.

Mark

What brand struts have you got on yours at the moment?

If you fancy swapping your nice pair of new ones for my half worn ones to save that adjustment hassle just let me know ;)

Seriously, I'll give a hand. I'm sure a bunch of us would help if you're coming to eurotec

Cheers Admin. Eurotec. Not even thought about that. Never been, and didn't know it was coming up soon. When is it and where? Failing that a drive up to yorkshire might be very nice. :)

Where are you from Mark? Nick is probably referring to the upcoming October event: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4264 - a good chance to meet 36 of us!

There is an event in June too: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4265 - but you won't be coming to that, it's sold out ;)

Cheers Arran. That weekend is already booked up for me, well I think so. It's my 40th on the 14 so going out for the night in birmingham. Shame as it would be great to meet everyone.

I just remembered the last Eurotec, Stephen Wynne got involved in a torsion bar adjustment and showed us a few tricks.

I can't remember who's car it was though.
