I have just bought one of the UAE 50 Deloreans.

Hi .
I see that I am one of the few Delorean Owners in the UK.

Big thanks to Alistair Vanstone who helped (and re assured) a lot. Cheers mate.
Also to David Butters who let her go.

I know that a few of you guys have seen this car? - It's not a "turn key" but I'm confident that I will be able to refurb this car. I think that this car has a good pedigree - the last of the UAE 50!

So I will be very sympathetic with the refurb - and great consideration will made whether I need to replace items on the car or refurb them to maintain it's historic integrity e.g.I will not be filling in the antennae hole or changing the hood for a grooved / petrol flap hood - it needs a new hood!! (jeez I'm talking all american!)

Already there are a few things I need to get to the bottom of? - and as an ex Aircooled VW guy - i'm going to need some advice along the way.

As an amateur musician, I'm an active member of a guitar forum and if you scroll down this thread (link below) check out Spudmurpys photos (me!) ... on post #14.

Some queries will shortly follow.- you can bet on that!
Cheers

I hope to meet up with you guys in 2017

Cheers Admin boy. Just popping out to the garage to take some photos of the "queries" - will probably post them tomorrow. I realise that there will already be some advice out there and I will use the search as and when - it (my queries) will be a great way to interact and get to know you guys so I hope "you guys" will bear with me lol

Congrats. Which one did you buy?

I'm guessing the one in Edinburgh?

Hi. Yes it was the one in Edinburgh. I've been keeping an eye on availability and prices over the years. Boy, as you (all) know they have rocketed in price - as I see it what with the dollar/pound exchange rate as it is , the cars now re - imported into the UK will cost substantially more. I have to say that I didn't intend to buy one for another 18 months - when I retire. But taking the above into account I bit the bullet and bought one sooner rather than later.
The one big saving grace on this one is that it has a frame that is in great condition - from what I can see the roof box is in great shape too - albeit with one reservation - more on that in future posts!!!
Now what is worrying me ....
-The seller of the car told me that a previous owner had taken things apart - so i currently have bags and boxes of bits some of which I can identify some of which I haven't a clue!!
- the engine is a non runner but everything indicates that the mileage is low - still has the original tyres showing a low wear rate.
- I've never worked on gearboxes - let alone own an auto !

So I'm really looking forward to interacting with you guys as a means of obtaining tech help.

bear with me - I've worked (diy) on VW beetles, Polos, Ford Fiestas/Renault Clios - hardly an expert on the later of the marques - although got on well with all things "VW Beetle".

I'm starting a "shopping list" - door struts/seals. locks etc.

The one annoying thing is the a previous owner was a "Badge hound" and removed one of the wheel centre emblems and the one from the top of the auto shifter - I'd prefer to source these as original (second hand parts) rather than repro?

Anyways I'll cut out here and start posting some tech queries .

Cheers
