Postby Spudmurphy » Thu Mar 09, 2017 7:27 pm

I was just wondering on one of these to replace the rusty looking stock intake

does anybody have a picture of what the actual installation looks like please?

Cheers

The rusty pipe is a hot air transfer pipe from the the top of the exhaust manifold to the intake pipe, in cold parts of the world it helps get the engine going a bit better, the black box is a type of valve that opens and closes depending on the temp, if you don't use the car in a cold part of the word get rid of it and replace with the part listed, i only use my car in summer so i don't need it, if know one else puts up a pic i'll do it tonight

Couple of random pics - couple of slightly different angle solutions here. As Gary says, it is only very cold, like northern Sweden cold. Something that came over with the Volvo - the part you'd be ripping out actually has "Volvo" stamped on it.

What do I do with the other end of the rusty pipe ? just remove totally and leave a hole.... This explains why I had so much trouble trying to fit with the existing fitting in line :)

The metal "hole" on the engine you mean? That's the "stove" which is basically just a piece of metal screwed on, with a hole (that doesn't go anywhere) in it. Just 2 screws and remove it. Or leave it there.

I’ve been thinking about this too.
Thanks for asking the question Kevin, and thanks Mike W for showing what to remove :)

Happy days. I’ll be doing this soon.

I bought the new hose from Ed - well I was in Amsterdam anyway so why not ? :-)

I ended up buying an aluminium Air intake cone from Ash silicone hoses and bonded it in with some wurth bond. I later made some sexy SS bands for Ed's hose and it's looking good.

This is an old pic with the old coolant bottle ... but you can see the cone.
