Any help is gladly received!

Just noticed you mentioned steering rack - we have one in stock, and can either offer a service where yours is refurbished - http://www.deloreanclub.uk/steering-rac ... -only.html - collection and delivery is included - or we can do a swap/exchange of your old one for a refurbished one: http://www.deloreanclub.uk/steering-rac ... posit.html

Hello all
Thought I would introduce myself. Had my Delorean for about a month now, already had 4 deliveries from Arran! so just getting into the swing of upgrading it.

It was brought into the UK by a dealer that sourced it in US as a 1 owner car with 767 miles on the clock. Looked pretty genuine mileage with the original tyes (perished) and still got the 1981 US tax disk in the window.

It has been stored somewhere but not looked after. But that's my job now.

Took it out for a quick spin a couple of weekends ago and think I need to 'man up' a bit - hard clutch, no PAS, etc.etc.

I have got most of the bits to upgrade the front end - springs, PU bushes, recall kit etc. but cant decide between spax or the protech suspension, I am leaning towards Protech as I think these look better on the car.

The main question I have at the minute is regarding the Lower Control Arm. I dont fancy paying huge sums of money on Aluminium or stainless LCA but am thinking of bracing with 5mm plate.

Are these items as weak as it seems or am I reading to many forums?

Welcome Andy

:spax: gets my vote all the time. I can tell you how much I endorse them with the quality, I actually opened my wallet and bought a set.

I look forward to seeing you and the car sometime :D

Welcome Andy - certainly the :spax: are very popular, we've sold *a lot* - colour isn't important on the front anyway, only the backs to worry about - many have simply painted them, see here for an example of that: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=501
I only know of one set of Protechs in existence (Chris Hawes) - I think he was the prototype - I know at one point there was an issue with clearance with the knobs on them - but I presume that's been sorted if they are selling them for real now?

Jason boxed his LCAs in with welded pieces, I think that sounds like a good idea - also if it ain't broke...
If memory serves correct you've already got new lower ball joints - absolutely essential - there is this upgrade from Rob Grady too, to reinforce that area: http://www.deloreanclub.uk/lower-ball-j ... -pair.html

LCAs do break, it isn't that common, but it does happen...: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4690&start=42

Hi Andy and welcome
I went with :spax: , lowered from springs and strengthened the LCAs in my own way
And I'm very happy with the result
I wouldn't worry about looks as Aran said you can paint the :spax:
Cheers

Hi Andy, welcome nice to hear from you.

I have only seen one car with Protechs ( Chris Hawes) and the camber on the back wheels looked non stock, spotted by Ed Uding... It would probably show up on an alignment machine ....this was at Eurotec 2015 not sure if Chris investigated any further.

One thing to bear in mind, owners that have imported extremely low mile cars have found that once they start using them.... Stuff starts letting go like clutch cylinders, brake master etc, Window motors, blower motor....

Wouldn't want you to blow your budget then find you need some 'spare' !

Thanks for the advice all, Spax it is then, will have to wait for the end of the month. 'She who must be obeyed' noticed the postman delivering the new lowered springs.

As for the clutch master/slave cylinder, calipers, fuel componants and window motors. most of these were changed as part of the deal I had with the importer to get it past the MOT.

Low mileage cars do seem to have all the same issues as higher mileage cars. :?

As for the LCAs I think I will just get it together and get the welding done next winter. I just want to get out and enjoy it.

Many thanks all.

Yes for sure they do, but usually with a high mileage car it has had a lot of work and parts replaced... Otherwise it wouldn't have been able to get mileage on it.

Water pump is another one which tends to let go one some use is put through it after being sat for a long time!

Sorry she saw the springs!
