Oil pressure

Postby Dave M » Mon Mar 19, 2018 9:47 pm

Just a quick question regarding oil pressure - been doing bits and pieces on the car ready for MOT Friday - had the engine on idle for about 15 minutes and checked my oil pressure and also with engine set at about 2500 revs are the 2 pics about right ? Engine done 40K

technically it should read 80PSI with a little fluctuation at idle. How old is your oil pressure sender? (bulbous thing next to oil filter) - most likely explanation.

Basically if your gauge moves around a bit it's probably OK. The sender and gauge aren't exactly accurate or reliable...!

Now that would worry me if that quote came from an airline pilot - in particular the one flying my plane :-)

They have been known to be inaccurate - possibly nothing to worry about but change the sender IMHO

Don’t listen to any of them, it’s obviously fucked & about to let go. I’ll take it off your hands for a couple of grand & save you the hassle ;)

Has the car been to Delorean One in the history file?

Ed did a mod to drill out cam oilways a few mm for a better oil flow.

Result is 20 at idle (oil hot)
2500 about 60 (oil hot)
and 80 around 3500 & above

If not second dibs on Ju's offer
