Yet another PO bodge !!!!

Postby Dave M » Sat Mar 31, 2018 7:00 pm

Before I put the 2 door panels back on the passenger door I thought I would have a look why the door mirror is all floppy! - well whipped it off ready to have a closer look and found out that one of the idiots that owned it before me decided that an easy fix would be just to screw a self tapper straight through the rectangular cover and into the mirror casing - and also most of anything black has been painted with some sort of hammerite including door handles bump stop and rear Louvre. - think I better invest in an orbital sander !!!

I got all my paint off the mirror housings using a spray can gasket remover. I used to work in the Automotive accessory world, and the tin had been in stock for at least 10 years. It was fantastic getting the paint off - don't use sandpaper as you will remove the grain on the plastic - I used wooden coffee stirrers to scrape the paint away - obviously try it on a small section first
