New owner of 0944, small update

Postby LSV » Mon Dec 24, 2018 1:39 pm

Hello,

A small while ago, I was finally able to purchase a Delorean. I found one here on the forum, and thought I'd share a little bit of progress on getting the car back on the road and with new MOT

When the car arrived in the Netherlands. Yes palm trees, but it's still rainy NL...

a flying Delorean. Haven't seen one of those in...

Were the rear bushings bad then must admit I hadn't paid any attention to them were they in one piece?

Looks good. Keep us updated.

Best regards!

Hi Dave,

Ah, just a 37 year old car. Can’t expect everything to be new. So basically picking up, where you stopped.
You already did a vast amount of work on the car. I’m just continuing it.

Gearbox and cv joint boots are next. Simply working my way from front to back. Gearbox will be pulled out next. Throwout bearing is making a bit of noise and crankshaft seal is leaking. So I’ll be replacing it all together.

Once the chassis is been redone, I will focus on repainting the Fascias, getting the two dents out of the body and repair the seat. Should keep me busy next couple of weeks :)

Well good luck with it. Did you gave the injectors tested? I'd be interested in the state of the clutch.

Take care.

Not tested them yet, ordered new Bosch units.
Clutch is working, but think it might be contaminated with oil due to the leak of the crankshaft seal. Throwout bearing makes a small noise. Bought a new valeo clutch kit.

excellent.

keep us updated. We'd be interested in seeing the progress

I'm also interested in the ground wire you've run to the fuel pump - did it help any?

cheers
Dave.

Don't run a separate earth wire to the fuel pump as you'll bypass the safety inertia switch !

It's from the fuel pump to the inertia switch and from the inertia switch to battery. I took care not to tamper with the original wiring, as the inertia switch will cutoff the power to the fuel pump in case of an accident and will power the doorlocks (in case they are closed) to pop open. But thanks for the headsup

Basically I ran the same set of ground wires as in my old Turbo Esprit, including an extra ground strap for the engine. Just need to complete one small strap to the front headlight point.
