Should I give up on living the dream?

Hi all.

I have some concerns with recent asking prices. As someone who is currently saving for a DeLorean, these asking prices are getting silly to the point where I feel I will never get to own one. TBH, 30k is my limit and im starting to feel I should just give up on "the dream". Ive still yet to do more saving as im only up to 22k. I plan on reaching the 30k goal by the end of july this year.

Are these just chancers/gold mine syndrome sufferers or are these cars really worth more than 30k now?

Whats the chances of me getting a delorean for 30k if say its listed at 35k?

Besides importing, are there any cars out there for under 30k?

They are well underpriced, should be at least 40k

I paid £28500 in April 2018.
It was running and driving - but not U.K. registered.

It needed some work to get it MOTd

I’m still working on her and am now well past the £30k mark.
(She’s currently with Chris N for beautification)

Keep saving though! Don’t give up the dream - it took me a hell of a long time to get here and I also saw the price hikes which made me wonder if it would ever happen. But it did.

Honestly - I think your best bet would be importing or dropping Tom Reddaway a line to see if he has a project car....

Asking price vs selling price are two different things. I.e. one that was for sale recently for £37k went for £32k.

If £30k is your hard limit then you may be best placed to be looking stateside depending on what sort of car you are after, you'll get more car for your money with space in reserve to cover repairs/maintenance/upgrades etc.

Would you be interested in a project car for example e.g something with is MOT'd and registered but in other aspects a rolling restoration? Or are you looking for a car that is pretty much 'sorted' (loose term as they all need something)

I work literally round the corner from chris. If its ok, i may just go have a look to help keep me motivated. Dont worry, i will be respectful. Last time i was there I didnt even touch the car.

Who is Tom Reddaway? Is he on this forum?

In an ideal world I would want a decent example car thats "sorted" as you say. I would like one thats already in the uk too as I dont really fancy the headache of importing (although I will if i have too).

Saying that, i am willing to take on a rolling restoration. What i dont think i could fix, im sure chris n can (as i said, im like a 15min drive from him where i live and work round the corner from him). I would like the best example i can afford.

At present, I have 22k saved. I will hopefully reach the 30k mark by the end of july.

I would be very happy to view your car but sadly im about 6k short of your asking price so i wont waste your time. However, come about june time if you still have the car, we can talk some more. Thanks

Hi,
Yes, go ahead. I don’t mind if you view my car over at Chris’s :)

Tom is a forum member here and does occasionally import and sell cars on.

I recon if you have £30k cash to offer up for a delorean there will be quite a few people who would be willing to sell up, I know I would certainly consider it.

Its reassurring to know that 30k can sway people into possibly selling.

Thanks Tristan. I did stop by after work but he wasnt there. When you pick up your car, if its not too early/ive finished work etc, it would be cool if i could meet up with you if thats ok? If not, no worries.
