Its just something that bugs me a little. Mechanics first, then electrical and finally cosmetics. Itll be something i do during the registration waiting period.

The fuel pump kit should arrive tomorrow so will get that in the car if the weather holds up. Ive just ordered the accumulator hoses as the ones on the car are falling apart exposing the braiding. Im not sure if i need a new accumulator though. Still need to change the fuel filter too

If you are going to the effort of removing it to change the hoses, I would change the accumulator as well while you're in there. You'll thank me later.

Agreed, it will be good to eliminate doubt, and you dont know when it was last changed. And as you are doing the hoses anyway...

This too is good fun.

Tip- as the car will be up in the air to do this, I would pressurise the fuel system (run the new pump), to make sure the new connections are not leaking, before dropping the car down.

And if you are feeling wealthy, its also good to change the other fuel hoses to braided ones, as you have access (Tho admittedly this took me about 5 years)...

Well ive ordered an accumulator and a few other bits and pieces. Fuel lines are on the "to get" list. My wallet is taking quite a beating. Think some overtime is needed

:D Yep, sadly I think we can all relate to that!

Arran offers free postage over £50 tho!

My advice would be to concentrate on one system at a time, and dont get side tracked by trivia. No one is going to care about your LED indicators when OEM rad has just spat coolant down the M1.

I would focus on:

1. Make it go- Get the fuel system sorted, from one end to the other. Hopefully you dont need to buy injectors, but you may
2. Make is stop- braking system. Budget for master cylinder and 4x soft lines. Potentially 4x calipers will need to be rebuilt, so seals and pistons. And of course, the handbrake.
3. At a bare minimum check the suspension very thoroughly, if not for immediate replacement. trailing arm bolts, front ball joints, and lower control arms are all known failure points, and may be long overdue for renewal.
4. Again as a minimum, once the engine runs, make sure the cooling system works, and the fans kick in. Pipework, rads, otterstats and fans are all pretty shit when new, and havent improved over time!
5. Now service it (fluids not yet done, and filters)
6. Now MOT it.
7. Get back to work on the overtime, to pay for 1-6
8. Repeat. 12 months have passed. Everything you have achieved is now fucked, and things that were fine are now fucked too. :dance:

Its clearly a life long project car and im happy i went this route. Ive added loads of things big and small to the DGo wishlist but most of those are cosmetic so can wait.

I know the lower control arms need doing as they are original on my car. Thats not gonna be cheap unless i can get just a set of the reinforcing metal that goes in them then i can have someone at work weld them in for me.

Fluids wise, i need to change the brake and gearbox fluid and just add coolant. Oil has been done as has the oil and air filters.

I have tried some of the electronics. Once i turn the ignition to point 2, the fans come on straight away and something beeps at me. Ive not bothered investigating this yet but im planning on changing all the relays at some point and adding in a fan override switch into one of the dummy switches.

Ive decided im going to remove the fuel tank and clean it out but that will have to wait till the weekend now as im back to work tomorrow. Might make it easier to install the new fuel pump and hoses etc.

And yeah, i just look out the window to see the "dream" and cant help but smile or ill just open a door.

So what I thought would be a 10min job wasnt. The air intake, should it be secured to the tube inside the pontoon or can it just sit around it? Does it need to be "sealed" so theres a vacuum? Or is it best to attach it to the curved piece that was originally there (pic2)? Even that piece im sure wasnt actually attached on the inside either. At the moment, the new intake is just sat over the inside pontoon place

Doesn't need to be sealed, it does nearly nothing at all anyway, and you can either leave the angled piece in, or remove it.

Fuel tank is now out. What a royal pain that was. Good thing i did really as it appears as though a leak has occurred at some point. It looks to be surface rust so i will try some rust removing paste then prime and paint, the rest of the chassis is in great shape.

This is rather fun but I'm beginning to think that even if my car is ready for the june meet i doubt it will be attending as it still needs to be registered which can take some time i believe. Either way, I'm planning on coming along for the friday and saturday.
