People are weird/fascinating...

Postby DMC1983 » Mon May 20, 2019 10:06 pm

A thread has appeared on facebook regarding a delorean thats been left to degrade thats got me thinking...

I dont get people with this car. We've all seen it. The many "it should be saved" and the "ive tried to buy the car" type of comments where the owner just doesnt want to sell the car for whatever reason but equally doesnt want to restore the car either.

I dont get why people feel the need to pester the owners to sell. I also dont understand why someone would offer silly amounts of money for a project when you could buy a great example for less or even buy a project for less elsewhere (bhcc always have deloreans in various states of decay as we know. Most of us here are part of the bhcc club). if someone offered me stupid amounts of money for mine, firstly i wouldnt believe they were serious unless they had a suitcase full of cash there and then and secondly its mine. I worked hard and saved harder for it. I didnt buy the car to sell it. Ok the difference is i am restoring mine but thats cos i dont want an expensive lawn ornament. Everyone has their reasons. Time and money is a factor for any car. Sentimental reasons are another. There are probably other reasons too.

Way i see it, if you wanted to sort out some double glazing on your house, do you wait for someone to knock at your door to sort them, or do you go to a specialist yourself?

Whatever the reasons are for this or any other car thats been left to "rot", if they wanted to sell it, they would list it. Going to pester the owners will accomplish nothing but to annoy them which in turn probably means they neglect the car further.

People fascinate me. Delorean enthusiasts even more so. I love the car but not to the extent where if i saw one i would follow them home or leave notes with offers as ive heard from other owners. I think some people get creepy around the car and i dont get why. People seem to have a personal connection to the car (which is fine) but quite alot of people forget it doesnt belong to them. Ive seen pics where people have had to climb inside of someone elses car at an MOT center/show events to get pics without even getting the owners consent. Not cool.

So when i see comments from people saying they would save it, why not go to the bhcc website where they have deloreans that need saving and are actually trying to sell them? Or is it just a simple wishful thinking?

What have others experiences been with their car where its made you just think WTF! Or youve been a little creeped out

I rekon basically what most of them are really saying is, that bloke has a car he doesn’t care about & I want it for FA because he isn’t doing anything with it or looking after it.
What they don’t seem to get is, it’s his car & he can do wtf he likes with it

Agreed. I think jealousy plays a big part in it.

These cars attract a lot of weirdos, mostly because of BTTF I think. I have seen many posts on FB from people saying it's their dream to own one because they love BTTF and even asking for monetary donations from people so they can buy one!! So when they see one sat there rotting away they think that because they would care for it and love it it is their right to have it.

I think alot of them are dreamers and tbh, i doubt many of them who feel its a right to have one could afford to keep it on the road anyway.

I see alot of people claim if they had one they'd turn it into a time machine yet they cant afford to get just the car let alone do the conversion.

Ive had one guy knock on my door last week which i was ok with as he was a nice guy but i cant say i would do that. At best i would drive by every so often for a chance to see it. But thats just me. I dont really want notes through my door or being followed by people as thats just creepy, stalker territory.

It boggles my mind though that quite a few people seem to see nothing wrong with any of it. This seems to be a thing with this car in general. I guess it happens to other classic car owners but it feels like the real weirdos are drawn to deloreans. Bttf is definitely the cause for it.

Deloreans... both a blessing and a curse

Had a new one yesterday. Whilst i was filling up, i heard some kids exclaim "oh wow its a deluxo. I thought they werent real cars?"
A deluxo is a fictional car based off a delorean in the grand theft auto series. The yellow one was how they looked originally in one of the old games. In the latest one, they look like deloreans, have gullwing doors and fly.

I had a bit of a crowd and people cant resist "groping" the car. Seems like a waste of time to ever wash the car really.

Ive had a few "what paint is that?" also.

I took the misses out for a meal and ended up there for an extra half hour whilst answering questions to the fanboys. I dont ever recall acting this way when i saw the cars. Its like they want to throw their underwear at the car or something.

Ive also had at least 2 people ask me what car it is whilst looking at the back end. Im thinking what? The word delorean has been tip ex'd in. Why ask me that? One guy thought it was an espirit
