Dont worry Bandit's lovely really ;)

Yes that earth on the rad support is the closest, you could also maybe use one of the front body mount bolts for a bigger earth for a battery assuming that they undo ok, if they wont, then leave well alone as if you snap one its a body off job to sort it.

I'm in essex too.. Romford

Do you have ant pics of your new purchase ? be good to see it

Have you purchased the Time Machine formerly owned by the Speakmans?

That was imported around 2005 into the UK

Welcome :D

Blimey Al, there's a name from the past. Did a TV show with the Speakmans back in 2005 when they'd just bought the car..They were proper "characters" ;)

Yep I am the new owner of the Speakmans car :) They traded the Delorean + a White Lamborghini Countach in for something new!

It needs a LOT of work, but the basic mechanicals of it are good. The BTTF conversion is a bit sketchy too, so I'm going to be replacing a lot of that. Gives me a fun project to work on though.

I'm trying to find out how they managed to use the registration B4KTO on the car though when it is obviously a suffix W registration. More importantly, I want to put a similar plate on it myself.

Ah ok that makes sense then.

The car has an interesting history it was originally imported by Martin Fillery ( google his name in news and you will find out about him )

He was a serious collector, I think Dan Shane did some work on it when it was originally imported.

It was almost bought from Martin by James Bourne of Busted who eventually went for the Explodaview car, and the Speakmans purchased it.

Martin offered to give it away at one point for anyone who could get his band to number one!

Think the Speakmans took it abroad a couple of times - hadn’t thought about the plates before - interesting point.

Wow thanks for that little bit of history. Its had quite a life :p

I have been told (not sure how true) that if you export a car, and then re-import it then you can use private plates up to the year that it was imported. So in the case of my Delorean it says on VOSA that my VIN was first registered in the UK in 2005 (when it was imported), possibly meaning that I can use new style 05 plates on it?!?!

It doesn't work that way, the DVLA assign it an age related registration based on it's year of manufacture.

My car is on a suffix W registration, so I couldn't stick an 11 plate on it for example because I registered it in March 2011.

But yet, somehow, my car was going around with a 1984 B registration for more than 10 years. I'd love to know how the previous owner managed that :/

Did the car come with any documentation, e.g. old MOT certificates which show B4 KTO as the registration?

Yep, I've got the documents showing the purchase of the cherished plate, then the document showing the transfer from 1ORD to B4 KTO. After that there's maybe 10 years of MOT's all on the B4KTO plate. So it was definitely legitimately used on the car.

Interesting, I think the latest I've ever seen is on a C plate. The DVLA will do seem to do whatever they want, mine should be on a suffix X registration by rights.

You could try to reclaim the B4 KTO plate if it's of particular interest to you.
