How often do you change your oil?

I'm pretty sure I ought to change the oil on my car, but I actually can't remember when I did it last - last summer, or the one before?

How often does everyone else do it - are you religious about it? Do you care?

Do you feel like it actually makes that much difference to do it super regularly in cars that do as little miles as ours? Especially when the oil change intervals are determined more by the modern oil that's being used rather than the engine it's going into...

When the car was on the road Id try do it once a year, to keep a good habit going.
Plus the oil is the blood of the engine to keep it right to help reduce wear. especially on the cam lobes and not the best designed oil galleys for head lubrication.
I did notice a smoother start up and idle from cold after new oil changes , but maybe that's the placebo effect lol!

I used to do it every 6 months when I first got the car, but switched to changing it once a year around 5 years ago. For the mileage our cars see changing the oil & filters once a year is fine.

There are different trains of thought on this , as soon as that oil enters the engine it is aging , it’s different leaving in a sump which is never fully clean to a sealed tin on the shelf.

If the oil is allowed to become acidic it can cause issues and with block rot through the oil galleries eating through the aluminium

I also don’t think oil is made like it was years ago

Good write up here amongst others

I usually try to do mine once a year or at least every two years
