Black painted square on the windshield

Postby DrWin » Sat Aug 15, 2020 7:55 am

Hi guys,

I've gotten stuck with my 10207: I can't mount the rearview mirror before I figure out how to repair this part of the windshield; the black patch of paint:
Repainting it from the inside doesn't repair the looks from the outside...

Any suggestions?

Cheers. :text-imnewhere:

Confused... ...is that the pad the rear view mirror sticks to ?

Whats the issue I assume someone has scratched it off and we are looking at the remains of scratches...but are those scratches on the inside or outside ? It looks to be the outside which looks weird.

It is what it is odly enough, I see some more info on another forum, basically it was damaged and he tried to scratch off the black square from the inside, it wouldn't come off, so he repainted it on the inside to re-blacken it.

The Problem is the scratches are still showing from the outside. Which is amazing as on the pics here they look like external scratches but apparently not.

Refit your mirror and get a good splash of mud on the outside :)

Remove the paint, then fill the scratches with a Windscreen chip repair and then repaint. The problem is the scratches are allowing the light to refract.

You could try and polish them out with some glass polishing compound, and a polishing wheel, I'm sure you could certainly make them less noticeable,

Or stick a Matt black vinyl square to the outside of the screen in the same position might be a quick cheep fix to take your eye off it (I can't recall if the wipers cover that area in which case probably not such a good idea).
