When i bought my car i had no idea how long it sat for and no history (well 9 neil diamond tapes if that counts as history). So what I did (and you can see in my vin 5219 thread) was drop the fuel tank and clean it. I replaced the fuel pump and the housings within the tank (the baffle is the only thing that stayed). I put in a new accumulator and fuel filter and i changed every fuel line (the ones at the tank end and at the accumulator, not just the injectors and engine end ones). That should be sufficient enough, which it was for me as i couldnt see a drop of fuel at the fuel distributor. Personally, all ive just mentioned should be done anyway. Looking at pics of your car, it appears its all pretty much stock still. Everything is turning 40yrs old and whilst things were built better in the old days, they still werent built to last forever. I think im one of the rarer owners that will change parts careless if its needs doing now or not.

I did other things too before i actually turned the key to start her up (put in a new starter, updated relays/fuses, fresh coolant and oil to name a few). I managed to capture that moment on camera. Great day and whats even greater is that i knew bugger all about fixing cars. I bought a non runner, and now i drive it quite often.

Thanks for the great advice, I will replace all of the fuel lines. Something's you don't mess around with, fuel, brakes and electrics. Its gonna be a long wait until I start tinkering!

PS yes look at the failure points fuel lines, brake lines all prone points there are lots of threads. 40 year old items often look fine until they start getting re-used, re-warmed, cooled, heated and perishes and weakness show.

This was the last fuel line i changed and its why im very vocal about getting them changed. This could of resulted one way and i was lucky to catch it straight away.

As for brakes, i changed everything. New rotors, pads and flex lines. I also rebuilt the calipers which is a fairly easy job you can do yourself

It sounds like I'm on the right track for my plan to replace all lines, and service the engine. Will also be doing brakes, tyres, light mods and fog lights etc.

Just waiting for an update on when it sets sail! I'm not very good at waiting but at least it gives me time to clear out my workshop in preparation for the new arrival

To keep my self amused, while I wait for what seems to be forever for the car to be shipped to the UK, I have set myself a challenge of tracking the container ship and spotting it on webcams. (its keeping me happy for now)

The car is due to set sail on the 26th October on the NKS Rumina. Currently the ship is loading at Seattle before heading to Los Angeles then arriving in Southampton on the 22nd November.

Managed to get some lovely shots of it arriving in Seattle from the webcam on the Space Needle
