Just got it!! 4 months' tax back, so I paid for March and April, they refunded the rest.

I am rarely one to compliment the DVLA, but it would appear in this case they actually got it right?!!

Remarkable...

Cheers all

Incase anybody is waiting....After waiting 7 weeks, I got in touch with the DVLA and found out that they lost my application (had sent it recorded delivery), and I would have to reapply....

Complained to them yesterday, somebody got in touch, and today its now showing as taxed.

I did application at post office 9th April and got a receipt. Took around a week to show as taxed on website. New V5 arrived this week.

Bit of an update. As mentioned previously, those of us who applied a year early ended up with our year of manufacture changed to 1980 on our V5s. I was never happy about this so I sent my V5 back with a letter asking for it to be changed back to 1981, as it was before. Well to cut a long story short it has taken 4 months, 3 first class stamps, and 10 phone calls but its finally been changed back.

Further update for people who are as lazy as I am and/or too stuck-up to stand in a Post Office queue (also as I am!). It's very easy to do this by post, I have successfully done this.

All you need to do is post 3 pieces of paper to the DVLA, Swansea SA99 1DZ

1) Complete V5 document, with nothing else written on it other than "HISTORIC" in the "tax class" section of the blue "change my vehicle details" section (Section 1). No signature is needed.

2) V112: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... om-mot.pdf
with "R" written in the category box, name, reg, signature.

3) V10: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... le_tax.pdf
Section 1 - your details, Section 2 the reg and "HISTORIC", Section 3 - 12 months and the first day of the current month - again no signature.

That's it. Just those pieces of paper, no covering letter, stick a stamp on it and post it in a postbox. That's all I did and it took 2 weeks to process. I was previously on SORN, but if you currently have tax paid on it they would then send you a refund cheque.

Kicking off this thread again for what I understand to be the start of eligibility for the final lot '83 DeLorean's to be able to change vehicle tax status to Historic here in the UK.

With my V5c stating manufactured in 1982 and first registration as 1st April 1983 my D became eligible from 1st April. The first steps couldn't have been easier once the process was understood, thanks to all the former posts above. I simply got together my V5c and the MOT certificate, walked to my local post office and handed over the documents having asked to register the car as historic.

This did cause some confusion with the counter staff at first, and not wanting to be fobbed off in any way I explained the instructions on the gov.uk website, and showed them it on my phone (which I had prepared to have ready in a browser) and they then figured out the menu options on their system which they had to select. After they had found the correct options they scanned the V5c, stamped it and printed me off a receipt. They also confirmed I was now re-taxed at £0 for a further 12 months, and that a refund for the balance of my previous yearly payment would be made.

So let's see if the actual processing with DVLA runs smooth. I'm not counting my chickens yet!

I sent mine to DVLA on 3rd April, still waiting to here back, it still shows as SORN on the website. Kind of wish I done it at the Post Office if one is still open locally.

I received my new V5 in the post today, that was after going to the PO on the 1st April, so just over 3 weeks to process and post.

No mention of any refunds, but it sounds like this comes in a seperate correspondence.

It's pretty cool to possess something of historical interest. :)
