I bet you wish at this point that someone had just told you this right at the beginning, eh. Save yourself the time etc. ;)

So my historic application was accepted by the DVLA. I also know of a few other owners who have also had theirs accepted now. However, they have changed the year of manufacture to 1980, see screenshot below. I think I will write to them again next year and ask for it to be corrected back to 1981.

So anyone who has a registration date of Jan 1981, yes you can get it registered as historic, but the V5 will come back saying the vehicle was made in 1980 :?

Since the first batch of 379 cars only left Belfast on 19th April 1981 bound for USA - how is it credible to have a "Date of first registration" as January 1981???

DVLA often put them as Jan 81 because they refuse to accept a photo of the vin plate as sufficient evidence of when it was actually made.

Or indeed that vin814 with a manufacturer's plate stating April 81 was actually made after Dan's vin 6511?!

(First registered August 81, and "declared manufactured 81")

Fair play to you tho Dan- well done!

Well done Dan

On the V10 under tax class did you put 'historic'?

So send off V10, v112, reg doc and insurance cover note to DVLA and see what happens? (Just tried in the local post office, computer said no)

I actually put 'historic vehicle' but I'm sure either would be fine

V5 also needs to have historic written in the tax class under changes section, and signed at the bottom. Insurance cover note not required here, but think I read somewhere it is in NI ?

V112 is only needed if your MOT has run out, otherwise you don't need to bother.

I suspect yours will come back the same as mine and the others - 1980 as the manufacture year. So if you don't mind that then go ahead, but I know some people will wait until next April so that doesn't get changed.

Hey Dan,

Are you saying that although my reg date is august 81 I can still apply?

Or is this only as you have a Jan 81 reg date?

Sorry- being dim!!
