Newbie wants a Delorean!! :-))

Postby extremepie » Tue Oct 13, 2009 9:48 pm

Hi you lucky people, who own one (or more!) of these gorgeous cars!!
In the not too distant future i will be looking to buy a half decent example!
I've been thinking about importing over from the states, has anyone done this and could you give me an estimated cost!?
The cars over there are so much cheaper! Still, i've got to weigh things up and do some research before the time comes to purchase.
I'm going to pop over to the mini meet this weekend in Sunny Hunny! kids too! will be great to see some cars in the flesh!!
Might chat to you there...
:)

Hi - and welcome!. Yes - there will be 35 or so people there this weekend, and 12-20 cars :? - and you'll find us a very friendly and helpful bunch!
Only thing is though - you may find we go out some time between 1:30 and 5:30 on the Saturday - maybe! - depends on a lot of things really.

This is the importing thread: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=317

Basically if you find a car from the USA for £10K you are looking at a bill of about £3k just to get it here, including taxes. After that you have to do some modifications to it, and then MOT it, register it, etc.

Also you'll plenty of UK cars for sale here: viewforum.php?f=56

Currently there are at least 5 cars that I know of currently for sale in the UK, starting at £13k for a car that "needs work", an £18.5k one that is absolutely mint - and up to £26k for an all-singing all-dancing high perforance version.

Hi thanks for that 'lightning' response, some very useful information there!
Interesting too are the price ranges you mentioned because i was thinking spending up to £20k. So it would seem i should get a pretty decent car then! :D

I'm going the meet anyway, i'm sure someone will be around, if not i'll nip down to the beach lol
Thanks again
See ya

Best time to come would be around lunchtime - we'll definately all be here then!

This one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0458544713 and: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=422 is still for sale. The asking price now is £18750.
Contact "Jason" on 07795630893, or Chris Nicholson (evenings only) on 01268 690942 (taken off the internet). Chris Nicholson can also be contacted here: ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=217 -and really he is the best person to contact regarding any other cars for sale too.

I "think" Stuart Rees is still selling a car too for £18250 - here: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1255529.htm

Hello Mr Pie :)

Welcome to our Club and Forum and look forward to meeting you at the weekend :)

Your going to the right place to compare cars and learn a more about them before taking the plunge and buying one.

BTW I bought my car 5+ years ago from St Louis so can share my 'experience' with you then if you wish.

Another car is listed here at http://delorean.co.uk/ but as you can see this is a lot more than just a 'stock car' , hence the asking price ;)

Regards

bozzzy.

Hi Bob, and welcome to the forum!

The first car on your link is the same one I have mentioned above (also listed on ebay and Autotrader). From what I hear it is absolutely mint, and a good buy at £18750ish. If I'm not mistaken it is currently residing with, or near, Chris Nicholson

Not many people seem to know much about the John Geuley £16500 one, or where he is. But looking at the work he's had done, I hazard a guess that the "UK's Leading Delorean Repair Specialist" is also Chris Nicholson too!
