No jokes on this post Rob. Most traffic signs are similar to Europe i.e. Red Circle border or red Triangle Border.

Where you can't park will be highlighted by a double yellow stripe next to the kerb.
Where you will be towed will be highlighted by a double red stripe next to the kerb (mainly London on main routes)

You just need some black tape to blank out the section on the headlamp that would point to the right.

Speed limits in the UK are in Miles per Hour and NOT Kmph. 50 Mph is approx 80 Kmph.

Also much as you said on this quote apart from the pedestrian crossings have orange lights on top of black/white striped poles as in the pic.

You won't get on the spot fines like in europe.

As said, it's advisable to get a bright yellow high visibility jacket, warning triangle etc.
If you do brake down on the motorway then park on the hard shoulder (the left most lane dedicated for emergencies) but get out of the car, wear the high vis jacket and stand well away from the motorway.

Get a recovery service organised just in case (although members here would help!)

It would be rare you got fined for running out of fuel and parking on the hard shoulder on a motorway.

When coming up to roundabouts, there is a sign/ road markings to show which lane you should be in for a particular turn.
Larger roundabouts have dedicated lanes to enter/ exit.

Good luck and enjoy driving on the Left !

RobvdVeer wrote:Ok forget it, go free on the jokes for all i care..

All i found is:

* you have to drive on the left, and overtake on the right;
* keep to the speed limit;
* unlike EU, there is no right of way for traffic from the right (which will be left in your case) because all crossroad are properly marked
* you have to signal correctly when approaching a roundabout
* pedestrian crossings are marked by green lights on poles
* you may not park on some roads
* you can be fined if you stop on the shoulder because of an empty tank.

This will not be a problem because my new gauge dials will be in MPH only. (Can't wait to install)

Absolutely true and I agree so much there. Very bad accidents have happened over the years on shoulders. It makes an empty tank combined with a sleeping lorry driver turn from 'damn i have to walk' into a nightmare.

All true. But if you call porn involving naked women 'gay' then you are a bit odd.

I don't think its law to carry your insurance certificate with you is it?

Don't worry about any of it, just get in your car and drive. As Tony would say 'Fack It'
Sell it Or Sorn it

Althought its mostly informative for people from the continent, i had fun reading this:

http://slgeek.com/wordpress/2010/04/12/ ... and-day-2/

The Magic Roundabout

Once you have regular roundabouts and mini-roundabouts under your belt, are you ready for the (I kid you now) Magic Roundabout? This is five mini-roundabouts, all arranged in a circle. Wikipedia reports that there is agreement that it is the “scariest junction in the UK” but, nonetheless, moves traffic through faster with fewer accidents.

It's a lot scarier "in the flesh" too, especially when you're not expecting it! I remember just "closing my eyes and going for it".

RobvdVeer wrote:I've got something that came to mind just now. I've never driven a car in the UK. Since y'all drive on the wrong (other) side of the road, my european headlights will be annoying to oncoming traphic, for example.

I am wondering what the rules and regulations are for european cars to drive in the UK. It would be nice to see some sort of list on do's and dont's (or is it don'ts?). Things like spare wheel, emergency flashlight, reflecting jackets, etc.

PS. I would like to keep this mostly serious, because i am a serious dude in security matters. I can imagine a lot of jokes coming up on 'how (not) to behave' etc.

Rob, I'm assuming your coming from the The Tunnel, the best way to Norfolk is right through London, try and get on the A406 which is the North circular road, this will take you through some of the most amazing scenery you'll ever see, towns called Bow, East ham, and not forgeting Barking. And if the weather is clear you might even see Dagenham, and that has 2 windmills to make you feel at home. You will sample first hand how we live in perfect harmony with different cultures from around the world, mainly from African and Indian nations, and as we as a country have invited them to live with us. you will also get a chance to experience driving with these cultures if you 'Heed my advice' and take this most memorial route you'll never forget!!! You will sample first hand what driving is like in Britain!!! And you better not forget my Cloggs either, thats the only reason I'm going is to get these!!! Do this for me and I'll have an alcoholic beverage waiting at the bar for you!!!
