Delorean Europe

Postby KMC-DMC » Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:10 pm

I decided to treat my girlfriend Clare to a holiday in Amsterdam next week. Only catch (for her) is we have to drive VIN 2969 to Delorean Europe :D
I'm going to do the Stena Harwich - Hook route. Any advice from someone who's done this route in a delorean? I know from previous posts that others have done the tunnel route but I didn't fancy the drive.
Any Rules of the Road i should be aware of in the Netherlands?

I should be able to answer this one (sometimes the dutchies are handy).

- We drive on the right side of the road (yes, that's the opposite side for you). Please keep to the right as much as possible. Unless you're an asshole driving a BMW or Merc.
- Should you drive in the dusk/dark, make sure your headlights are properly taped/trimmed/set.
- Wearing clumps while driving is generally discouraged.
- At all time should you wear appropriate clothing. This rule does not apply to pretty ladies (hot foxes).
- There is no obligation to have safety vests, water, replacement parts or whatever.
- We actually have a very good road assistance called 'ANWB'. This is short for (roughly translated) 'Dutch Bicycle Club'. Yes bicycle. Get their number in advance. Ed might not have the time to come and pick you up.
- EVERYTHING coming from the right has right of way on equal junctions. That includes bicycles and pedestrians.
- Except when your on a roundabout, where traffic on the roundabout has right of way.
- Every non-equal junction will be marked by white triangles on the street (shark tooth).
- City limits are 50 Kph, Outside its 80 Kph, Highways are max. 100 or 120 Kph, all are properly marked.
- Fines are insane.

Thanks Rob.

The difficult part will be persuading my "co pilot" that the Delorean is safe and reliable for the journey....she has a lack of faith in the car.

Yeah I went with no breakdown cover, no front plate, illegal rear plate, didn't realise the give way to the right rule, didn't bother with headlight stickers (they are dim as candles anyway so didnt matter too much) coverted kph into mph litterally, and to top it all off I parked the delorean in Amsterdam center and then couldnt find it and spent 2 hours walking around trying to find the thing!! All good fun though.

Haha that was the next time I went Tyson, I didn't learn lol. But at least I didn't lose the delorean that time ;)

I did the Harwich to Hooke ferry with the Delorean in Sept 08. It worked out ok but it actually took longer than driving round from france and the ferry ticket was more than the fuel cost. I was also on my own and sitting on the ship for 7 or 8 hours was VERY boring.

Some photos from my trip to Ed's
Work done:
New front springs (mine had lost their spring!)
Doors aligned and new upper seals.
Installed front anti roll bar bushings
Black stripes - they look the great
Full service
New fuel pump boot & cap
Steering column bushing in rack
Other small jobs.....
Car steers so much better now. Big Thanks to Ed for his welcome.

We arrived in the Netherlands on Sunday during the worst storm I'd ever seen. This may come as a shock to some of you.... but Deloreans leak in the rain. And why did I not do what Welmoed had told me last year....cut off the excess trim on the headliner under the inner door seal to stop it from soaking up water.
