RIP Marco Simoncelli

Postby Tom H » Sun Oct 23, 2011 2:56 pm

I dont know if you any of you guys follow MotoGP, but motorsport has once again been marred this week with the tragic death of Italian San Carlo Honda rider Marco Simoncelli in Malaysia this morning. He was a personal favorite rider of mine and I was always convinced his time for victory would come...

My thoughts are with his family and friends...

Yes, I watched it this morning. Pretty horrendous crash, Colin Edwards was lucky to to walk away from it. It was obviously not going to be good once you saw his helmet bouncing down the track. It was kind of similar to one I remember from the eighties at Assen when Wayne Gardner hit Franco Unchini & his helmet flew off his head. Always very sad when it happens

Indeed it is tragic.

One crash I kept hearing them compare Simoncelli's to in news articles was Shoya Tomizawa's in 2010, who also got struck by following riders. I remember watching that live last year vividly as it was the first time I saw a fatal crash in motorsport... and seeing Simo go out the same way was pretty shocking.
