Car Wrapping, how hard can it be?

Postby Darren C » Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:25 pm

Ok, a friend of mine bought a rough Mazda off ebay and £90 worth of vinyl wrap, to avoid an expensive respray.

Problem is neither of us had ever wrapped a car......how hard could it be. ;)

So for the last two weeks we've been wrapping a panel at a time, starting with carbon fibre weave on the bumpers, then this psychodelic pattern on the rest.

I've learnt a hell of a lot...it aint bloomin easy at all.

Heat guns, spray fixer, scalpels, stretch and shrink, bubble popping tastic.

Here's what it looks like now, pattern matching around the car was a nightmare as we only had enough vinyl for one car, so for 1st time wrappers there was zero F*ck ups.

What do you think guy's for a 1st go?

Cheers Ty,

I could only do a panel a night as My mate and I didn't finish work until late, and on average it takes us about 3 hours a panel.

After all we are new to this game. Those videos on Youtube make it look soooooooo easy, but I assure you, easy it aint.

Know what you mean Darren, I've never tried wrapping a car, but have applied quite a few large decals over the years & even they can be a 'mare' so something as large as a panel :x I sold some to a guy for his motorbike & came back saying, 'these are crap, they are full of air bubbles.' I says, there were no bubbles in them when they were on the backing paper. It's like saying this tin of paint had runs in it, after I sprayed it on. What a cock!
