AutoART DeLorean taken to a new level

Postby DMCTodayMichael » Sun Jan 15, 2017 3:46 pm

Several months ago I began a project to rebuild a AutoART DeLorean to a proper scale model. I recently just got back on it with a desire to get her finished in the next couple of weeks. I have 3 stainless versions but since they are so rare I decided buy a cheaper matt black version and strip, grain, and use special Metalizer hobby paints to try and reproduce the finish in a more realistic manner.
Here is the matt black model all disassembled

Here is a pic of the original satin version compared to my black model that I disassembled and refinished

The model will have full interior lighting including the door marker lights that all come on when either door is opened. Same goes for the trunk and engine compartment lighting which was also super detailed with full carpeting and the engine fully plumbed

Amazing project, that's the way it should be in the first place :)

I started it in March 2016. Between family, owning a business, home repairs (which took up most of the summer) I find a few hours a week to work on it. Most every model I make is a 6 month to sometimes even a year long project. The last one I made was a Millennium Falcon cutaway which sold for almost $5,000.00 so the disparaging remarks like "you need a life" or "someone has too much time on his hands" usually just fall on deaf ears.

You make time for things you want to do. I dont build models on commission, I build what I want to build on my own timetable. I enjoy doing it and after I have enjoyed them and taken them on the model expo circuit, I sell them for pretty good money. Some people will play video games all weekend, some think watching Netflix or TV for 2 hours is time well spent. I take my free time and put it into making something....like transmission filters for example.

The remark wasn't dispariging as you've inferred, it was a reflection on the amount of free time required to make such a model.

My free time goes into fixing Deloreans, daily cars and raising money for animal rescues...

No problems. It's hard to interpret inflection in text. Sorry I jumped to the wrong conclusion.
I just get that a lot from some people but their intent is to both simultaneously dismiss my work as they could do it if they didn't have more important things to do and to insult me and my wealth of time and nothing better to do.

Thanks all! I had to completely rebuild my door lights. I used 3mm LEDs since fiber optic cables would be easier to attach but various electrical problems and space limitations kept that from happening. My chip LEDs should be in today and I can build new circuits and since they are now all the same voltage requirements, splicing the door marker circuit into the interior light assembley will be much easier and space saving (got to keep those doors light).
Hopefully this weekend I will get it all together and working then all the tiny bits go on.
