Haha - well the fuel economy was the main reason, along with not meeting recent Euro emissions requirements which is a bit of a killer. Performance wasn't really an issue - the turbocharged Prince has 5bhp more than the supercharged Tritec. Not that significant.
The supercharged Tritec won engine of the year in 2003 so it wasn't a bad old lump

(The new ones are a sod to tune because no-one has managed to hack the ECU software on them yet to let you turn the boost up without it going into limp mode, also they're much more bland to drive, the supercharger whine on the Tritec rocks - if you're into that kind of thing...
