I wonder what the insurance company would think him filming it and not trying to limit the damage ...

To be fair, once the fire has taken you'll have a right job putting it out unless you've got half a dozen fire extinguishers to hand. And I don't know where the petrol tank is on those - but I've seen the petrol tank go on a burning car, and it's not something you want to be anywhere near when it happens!

I beg to disagree.

Having been in the armed forces I have trained to put out raging fires from aircraft crashing on the deck of a ship in peacetime, to bombs and missiles in war. I was trapped in an inferno below deck on an oil rig in the Gulf War. I know all about fire, since the linings of my lungs are damaged from scar tissue as a result, I think I'm qualified to speak out about it.
In my current job I have trained to put out fires at oil and petrol refineries and petrol stations. I used to teach firefighting. Ok, not everyone has this knowledge or experience, but the key here is first response, and I believe as soon as the driver saw the smoke he would have had the opportunity to put out the fire easily with minimum personal risk; instead of walking away and filming it on his phone. Miura's are well known firestarters so any responsible owner would fit a suppression system or carry an extinguisher at the least. These are £500,000+ cars, so you need to be sensible about this known issue.

I have heard through the jungle drums that the poster of this video also posted other prestigious car abuse video's and that this was allegedly a set up.

All my cars have fire extinguishers, I have several industrial types in my garage and home. I'd advise everyone to do the same, this is only a car, you should see first hand what it does to a human body.

Darren I don't disagree with any of that - I was just saying by the point at which the video started the fire was too far gone to be putting it out by throwing your jumper on it and squirting some Evian at it. Should he have had a fire extinguisher in the car? Yes. Even if not should/could he have done something about it at the smoke stage when it first started? Yes.

Does make you wonder if it was indeed an insurance setup...

Good point about fire extinguishers Darren.

I already have a full co2 extinguisher in the garage and fire blanket on the garage door (so they don't get moved) and dry powder mini extinguishers in all my cars. Hosepipe is also on standby :)

Although not as involved as you Darren I have done fire and first aid for work and fortunately not seen the harm it can do to people (in real life) but I was taught that if the fire extinguisher did not put the fire out first time then evacuate the building or get to a safe distance away ASAP.

Also, what isn't well known is that on modern cars with synthetic rubber components is that after a fire they can turn to hydrofluoric acid. This is nasty stuff and can literally eat into your body and in some cases amputation is the only answer to stop it.

If you see a fire damaged car at the breakers yard then don't touch it !

This is why I find it hilarious that when the fire got to the point at about 15 seconds into the footage, his buddy suddenly realised he should move his Ferrari 458 which was about 20 feet away LOL

Gotta agree with you guys though, why the hell didn't he have a fire extinguisher in a car that valuable with a well-known fire-risk design fault? :?

Oh yes I agree as soon as you see smoke your average punter *might* have a chance to put it out, what I was saying was that from the damage already done at the point that video starts, you are better standing clear no matter what the cost of the thing.

It's all about assessing the situation. I do not mean to be foolish.
If you don't know what your doing then yes WALK AWAY.

But my point is: if you have a very expensive car thats known to burst into flames you take preventative action and possibly training to deal with it. Otherwise you really are a Muppet.

If you do opt to fight the fire its about that "timeclock" of opportunity to put out the fire. We used to call it "cook off time or point of no return"

Here's the text book case that I used to show to trainees. I had access to the full original film which is far more intense but still restricted. I got this off the internet but you'll get the idea of what type of situations we used to train for.
