Largest Microcar Museum in the World

Postby Dangermouse » Mon Jan 28, 2013 6:43 pm

(if that is not an oxymoron)

For a couple of years now, I have known that the largest microcar museum in the world is about an hour’s drive away from me, but I had never been. However, word got out that the owner was selling his collection and closing the museum, so I went down on Friday.

And what a collection he has accumulated. Apparently this is his second one, having auctioned off the first on in 1997. Amongst the expected Isettas, Messerschmidts, and BMWs was a surprisingly large assortment of British vehicles (Peel, Bond, one Mini, Sinclair, Frisky, Scootacar, Berkeley)

Supposedly only 26 Peel P50’s left in the world (out of 50 built)

And a 1965 Peel Trident (one of only 45 built) This is actually the second one I have seen in Atlanta. There was a blue one at the local British car show a few years ago.

The whole collection is up for individual auction on Feb 15 – see here for a fantastic on-line brochure

http://www.rmauctions.com/digitalcatalogs/2013/BW13/

The cars start at page 86 or so.

These little cars are worth $25-40,000 each. A small fortune in $/lb

$80.000 - $100,000 estimate for this little thing (Goggomobil 250 based van page 188 or Lot 269)
