Hide your keys

Postby Darren C » Thu Jun 16, 2016 7:01 pm

Adam my son, who most of you remember as a small lad, passed his driving test this afternoon first attempt in his Morris Traveller that we’ve restored between us!

Image

There’s some odd rules about the type and fittings on a car that needs to be met so you can take a Driving test in it. One is a seat for the examiner that has a fitted headrest. Suffice to say an old Moggie has no headrests and slip on ones are not permitted so we knocked up a frame (that used the original bolt fixings so no holes needed drilling) and had it powder coated to look the business.

Image

Then fitted an old Audi seat I had in my shed.

Image

Looked real odd but met the rules. He's learned with me only in the Morris, no mod cons, synchromesh on first or power steering, morse code operated brakes and 1000cc of pure Austin Morris stallions under the hood....PROPER driving!
In the middle of a stair rod thunder and lightening storm, Adam took his test this afternoon, and passed with flying colours in the Morris. This is one very proud dad!

Image

Got him a classic car policy and with it comes the ability to drive ANY classic car over 20 years old with the owners consent, the cheeky git asked me straight away within 2 hours of passing his test if he could take my old Aston out and what the Delorean was like to drive..

Quick folks hide your keys…..

That's great news Darren, really pleased for you and Adam.

The Morris Minor adds a really great twist to this, I wonder when the last person was to pass in one??

Well done both!!

Nice one Darren. Credit to the examiner too for presumably not being a twat about it and playing along
