Right then, I've booked for myself & Malc with respective 'other halves' from liverpool (birkenhead) to Belfast. It's an 8 hr crossing but leaves 10.30 & then no driving on 'the other side'. The other bit that suited us was, the return crossing leaves at 22.30 on the Sunday, meaning you get all Sunday to 'play' & there is a cabin included with the crossing, so you get your head down for 8 hrs & arrive Liverpool 6 30am on Bank Hol Mon then have a steady ride home. It's a bit more dosh £289.50 but from our point lots less driving & so less fuel cost. If anyone wants details let me know, I spoke to a nice lady who said she would so any more who were interested. Alternatively, there is Tony and Jason's "Wimps" flight:

Flying Back Sun 29 May 2011 dep. 16:55 arr. 18:15 £10.04
taxes & charges per person £57.90

TOTAL FARE per person including taxes & charges £77.98

Add on £100 for car hire, but split 4 ways, i.e. £25. The alternative is about £100 per person plus virtually no fuel

 Rememeber, I done it back in 2001, it cost me £150 in fuel then, that was without any ferry costs. Mind you, it's not about the money, it's about travelling in a Delorean for all that time and distance, and to be honest going from my house to Norfolk is far enough for me, I get paranoid when the car makes an unusual noise, like a creek or a groan, which believe me, *camel toe* car is good at doing, do you reckon it knows I don't love it, and it's bateing me??? The next time I drive a Delorean to Ireland will be to leave it there!!!

The group discount has been applied to the Stranraer to Belfast crossing due to the takeover of Norfolkline by DFDS. It can be arranged through the Dutch Owners Club. Through Dublin they only offer a group discount for coach travel etc. The return journey is approx £185 by Stranraer.

From Arrans, through Holyhead you have 5 hours drive, then 2 hours at other side whereas through Stranraer you have 7 hours then you are there. It is £65 cheaper by Stranraer through the Dutch Owners club.

I was planning to stay in the Europa but think I will stay at home due to cost cutting measures. It is only 15 mins in a taxi anyway if I want to drink. I still hope to have my car on the road so my car may be available to the wimps. There is also the possiblility of crashing in my house if anyone else is finding things tight.

Hello Stranger, about time we organised another maidstone beer up wasn't it??? are you going to Belfast???

I am a big girls blouse, and thats saying it likely!!! I'm only going for the meet up and the beer, I can't be bothered to drive though!!!

To be honest I thought there would be more travelling by air with the Tonemeister and myself, I even thought we might have some female company like Maria and Sally :( girls come with Tone and me, I am not trying to put you off, but you are looking at least 10 hours in a Delorean..........each way!!!! I don't mind sitting in it, but actually travelling in it........and for 10 hours.........whereas you could be indulging in cocktails in the departure lounge at Stansted whilst waiting for our flight!!! and only and hour and abit in the air!!! and cheaper !!! and I bet it don't break down.........I hope it don't break down, Ohh thats a thought. would we get a parachute???

Depending on times?! No I won't be on the 2am crossing to save a few quid!

As I see it, there is only one option on the way out. That is the 13:50 from Wales, arriving in the Republic at 17:05 - so should be in Belfast for dinner. £119

Coming back there is either the 08:20 (arrives 11:35) for £129.00, means leaving Belfast at 5:30am! Or the high speed service leaving Dublin at 13:15, gets to Wales at 15:14 - for £144

£263ish total (£130 per person plus fuel)

As I recall though, I think there may be some group discount/offer code being arranged?

It kinda depends on this Stranraer curveball. I kinda assumed we'd do Holyhead, but now I have no idea. Matt is quite correct that that journey times from Peterborough/Braintree/Hunstanton may not actually be that different - possibly up to 30 minutes more via Stranraer. Only problem really is "who else" might be on that route.
It's up to Dan

Stranraer seems like it might be a goer to me... Might come down to the convenience of the sailing times?

Me and my 5 yo son are taking vin 2969 over to Belfast from Liverpool on the Friday night, so we'll get to Dunmurray on Sat morning. Then we are doing the rounds to see my family in Belfast & Dublin and we'll take the ferry back from Dublin City to Liverpool on Sunday night.

Of course this all depends on the car wanting to actually work that weekend.
