Jeez..

You sure it was a badger?!!

Right I have the club radiator, we need a housing.

Jason Monk has one with fans, its our only hope, or Tom SpecialT but not sure if he wants to part with it.

What speed were you doing Carl?

IMO opinion the fan cowling looks shagged. In Alistair's photo you see the black cowling all around the fans? The fans pull air through the radiator front to back, and Alistair's cowling creates a seal so the air has to come from the radiator itself. On yours with very little in the way of cowling, or even a guide for the air, the fans will pull the easiest air only. Some might come through the rad, but some will come from around the fans, especially when you are standing still. It wouldn't definitely cause a breakdown, but you never know. I've driven for ages with only one fan on, for example, made no difference whatsoever to the temperature.

It *can* be bodged I reckon, something like a piece of lead roofing wrapped around the fans with duck tape! - but that in itself will be tricky, plus you still need to find a way of securing the fans.

That moisture on the rad doesn't look good either.

Carl ... your fans are held in place by the fan cowling

Unfortunatley your fan cowling at the bottom has come off in the impact :(

Hence your fans are only held on at the top :(

You need a new cowling at the very least .. perhaps new fans too... only a close inspection to see if they are ok will do

Plus a new radiator as yours is clearly leaking ( or fixed )

:(

LOL! Yes, unless it was definitely a badger, unmistakable not to mention it was a big bugger too! Was only doing about 45-50mph I should think. Saw the thing just make a dart for it and thought oh shit! As Nick say's can only happen to me, hey!

Guys, I really appreciate you sorting the parts out for me and I understand there will be some cost attached to this, so please give me an idea what I'm looking at, as it will probably come out of the Belfast kitty.

If there's anything I can do to in preparation, for example, take the old rad off or if you think the car might be in a drivable condition to get it over to you rather than you coming all the way out to me, again let me know. Any parts or tools to source between now and then?

If you do come out this way, I will make sure you are well looked after all day. :)

Thanks again for all your help and support, especially Al.

its leaking.. stone cold.... with the engine running and under pressure.... the rad is no good for Belfast the cowling needs replacing .... bodging it up in my mind is a dangerous idea... for a long trip to Belfast :o vibration from the fans will give the cowling hell and if the bodge fails.... they will go right through the radiator.... my idea of a list of bit needed=

1- new or re-cored Radiator
2- new/2nd hand cowling
3- possible new fans (hard to see in pics... :? )
4- straighten the brackets at the top of the rad..... i can bet they will be bent one way or another :(

I think a part of the cowling came off at the time Mike, as I something rattle and drop when it happened. The rest of the cowling I pulled off this morning to free up the fans. I have to say, the fan blades look OK to me...

The rad is facked though! :(

Dont drive it anywhere!!!!!!! Carl

if the rad fails.... she will boil up.... if the fans hit the body they will short out... causing even more damage :o
