You think that's alright going for a day? Felt like I was going slowly because I spent half of it on the phone to Al and TT to make sure I wasn't about to break something or f*ck something up!

Some of it was a bit of a fiddle by myself (like exhaust), but I think it's easier to take something apart solo than put it back together by yourself...

just to bail anyone out, if you dont have a square for the sump plug use the internal door bar from an old kit :D

So GezTec wasn't a complete success today. Despite Al's repeated rantings about how an engine swap takes 3 weeks, I was rather ambitiously hoping that if everything went according to plan (about a 5% chance of that...) we could have the car running by the evening.

Plan A ran into problems after about 10 minutes when:
a) we realised that the sandwich plate had pretty much disintegrated into the engine mounts and we didn't have another one.
b) My starter motor solenoid was dead, and the one off the Volvo was completely different.
c) We couldn't get the engine out for ages because we kept forgetting about plates and bolts we needed to undo.

But eventually with the help of a 8 foot piece of wood we separated the gearbox from the engine, and then managed to wangle it free, the only casualty being about 8 inches of skin off Mec's arm.

Once the engine was out it was time to strip it of everything that needed to get carried over.
However the pulley just would NOT come off. Everything we used to twist the pulley nut off with just bent. Finally Dan's breaker bar SNAPPED. So it was time to get serious with the blow-torch, go to Halfords to get another breaker bar and try again. This time - success. But the palarva had probably taken a couple of hours.

Time to remove the rest of the gubbins off the DeLorean engine. All of it is now off that needs to be off, and most of it is onto the Volvo engine. New engine mounts are on the car (old ones were completely shagged). Timing is sorted on the Volvo engine and ignition dizzy is on. Remaining to do before fitting to car - fit clutch, sandwich plate and sump. We can then wire it up and put the inlet manifold/fuelling gubbins on last.

Hopefully just a day's work next time around! Aiming at next Saturday or the one after. Can anyone who fancies coming let me know their availability?

Some crap phone pics here from the end of the day - have good photos from the whole day on my camera which I'll post up tomorrow.

Massive thanks to Dan, Al and Mike who gave up half their weekend today to help out, and a special mention to Dan for giving up his birthday to the cause! :D

Car is much lighter like this. I might leave it this way and cut out a hole from the drivers footwell. Flintstone power will probably be faster!

New Volvo engine to go in. Remaining toss to go on it/into it around it.

Count me in for the next session.

I still can't believe how mint that new engine is compared to the old one. Just shows what harm storing a car can do.

I think Tony deserves a mention for being on the end of the phone to explain how to set the timing and what bits to undo to separate the box etc.

Hehehehe...you sure that was the only repeated ranting?

If we had another engine to drop straight in then fine...but you have do do so much transplanting of bits and then rebolt on the ancillaries, thats what takes the time..then there is the shakedown!!!
