Even more so, think about these:

If they could fix the car back in 1855, the movie would be rather dull.

If Marty started the Chuck Berry sound, how on earth did Chuck copy it from the short telephone call?

Surely mom and dad must get a nervous breakdown if her son starts looking more and more like that kid from highschool they only saw for a couple of days? How about *their* parents?

I could go on, but i won't.

Well Tony, did you watch all three films at Basvegas and pay, or did you sneak in the back door like you usually do.

Question Answered lol.

Hi Mark,

Just found this thread.

We have to presume the Doc drained the fuel tank for four reasons.

1. He is a scientist and would know the fuel would go bad if left in the tank for 70 years.
2. In BTTF II the car spends most of it's time flying which would not be powered by gasoline, so would he have need to have much fuel in the car anyway?
3. In BTTF III when they are at the Drive in Movie, Doc tells Marty he's put fuel in the car. Therefore we can correctly presume it was drained and had none in it during storage
4. Bob G and Rob Z's story line is pretty watertight which makes the whole trilogy stand the test of time. 1885 Doc couldn't use parts off the buried car as they simply had no fuel even if they "borrowed" the metering head.

Also if you question why they didn't fly in BTTF III instead of being pushed by the train, its clearly written into Docs 1885 letter read in 1955, that the lightening bolt damaged the Hover conversion and the car will never fly again.
In 1955 the fuel Doc put in would have been leaded, but by the sound of the engine and the lack of stock tail pipes it had no CAT anyway. Even if it did, 1 random tank of leaded wouldn't have killed the CAT straight away and the engine would have still ran.

Nice question though Mark

Not a question about the car but I've always wondered how Biff can give himself the almanac in 1955 then return to 2015 but not be in the alternate timeline that he created by doing this?

I always thought it was because he went back to 2015 before Biff actually used the book and hence changing the future

Yes, but just giving him the book was enough to change the future instantly - much as in the blank photos of Marty's family / newspaper changes etc in the films. Old Man Biff wouldn't have access to the time machine, since it wouldn't have been invented because Doc Brown was "committed" in the early 1980s....

I take it as cause and effect

His family fading was 'slow' due to him changing the future 'slowly'

Other wise he would have instantly disappeared

Different time lines come into it too ... all very heavy :)

Hi Ollie,

That's because the almanac changed the timeline in 1955 right upto 1985 when Doc & Marty discovered it (to everyone else it was reality) They then went back to 1955 and took the almanac back, so when old Biff returned to 2015 the time line had been changed already (back in 1955) The alternate timeline only existed/ran until 1985 when it was discovered and reset. That's why Biff is not sucessful.

What's BTTF III ????

I googled it and all I saw was a car on screen that wasn't up to Bozzzy accurate!
