EuroTec Meet-up - Norfolk 9th July Weekend

Postby arranj » Sun May 09, 2021 1:04 pm

OK... A few people have expressed a keen interest for a meet-up a.s.a.p. - and the date I have got all of the initial batch of people to agree to is the weekend of July 9th. EDIT: THIS IS A FIRM DATE, CERTAINLY GOING AHEAD, AND SEVERAL HAVE ALREADY BOOKED.

As I understand it, there would likely be no issues with holding any kind of gathering then - the idea with this is that everyone just book a room as they normally would via the hotel's website directly, and that's that - rather than go through the rigmarole of me contacting the hotel in advance so they can put their prices up and send me a 17 page pdf of "rules". I can see no reason to arrange any of this in advance with the hotel, as it has always made little difference anyway.

There have been some "alterations" in the car park, which means we'd probably relocate to the right hand side area rather than the usual place, but other than that, no-one is going to stop up drinking in and the outside the bar - we can look at arranging a curry trip, etc. - once it becomes clearer what is "allowed" and restaurants will take a group booking from us.

In short - it is 2 nights from Friday 9th July - and the booking link is here: https://suryahotels.co.uk/hotels/dragonfly-kings-lynn/
At the time of posting this it was just £117 total for an "advance purchase" weekend for 2 people including breakfast. EDIT - NOW £139.50
I know it's "only Kings Lynn", but this weekend last year was sold-out even without us, so don't leave this to the last minute - the hotel will very much be full without a doubt, as will nearly every hotel in the country for every weekend in July.

Since this is not "officially organised" - I, nor anyone, would have no way of knowing if you have booked, so ideally find a way of letting me know - ideally by posting a reply here.

Here below is the obligatory copy and paste "intro"

Here it is then, may I present

"EuroTec Weekend 2021"

This event is taking place across the weekend of Fri 9 and Sat 10 July 2021 in King's Lynn, Norfolk.

Image

As with the highly successful sell-out EuroTec events in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 ,2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, not to mention the other so-called "mini-meets" this will be based in the pretty county of Norfolk, this time at same new location, still close to the Royal Family's home at Sandringham - on the edge of the town of King's Lynn.
For pictures of our previous events please click here

For this meet, the focus here is on socialising. If you've never been before don't be scared! Many people who come to these meet-ups only know one or two others (or less). This is a good way to meet up with like minded people and swap tips. For non-owners there will be time to ask questions, look around the cars, etc. The hotel is http://www.dragonflykingslynn.co.uk/ . Accommodation is not exactly 5 star, but the hotel has a large tarmac car park and has recently been fully refurbished. There are 50 rooms in total.

Attendance at these events is always high, always sells out, and many DeLorean cars are expected this time as usual. As with the previous big events here, this will be a guaranteed sell-out, the hotel are not reserving any rooms for this, and are totally unaware we are coming.

The Itinerary:
- Arrive Friday from 14:00 onwards.
- Socialise, congratulate those who've braved the Norfolk roads in their DeLoreans
- dinner - maybe a local Indian restaurant - tbc
- Beer etc. (the bar is/was open 24 hours normally)
- Sleep(?)
- Saturday - Breakfast (included)
- Hang around car park kicking tyres, etc.
- 1.30 Lunch at "Arbuckles", local large popular restaurant nearby - t.b.c. - assuming they will have us
- 3.00 Tech session
- Bar
- dinner at the hotel - price £10-£15 - tbc
- Beer etc. (the bar is/was open 24 hours normally)
- Sleep
- Sunday - Breakfast (included)
- Go home

Since this is a highly un-organised "event" please just mention it in this thread if you are going to come along for either day (with or without staying), or if you have any other questions. If you'd rather not post here  then click here to send a message to Arran now - or email me, or tell anyone - I will probably find out :) - just so we have an idea of numbers.

In short - it is 2 nights from Friday 9th July - and the booking link is here: https://suryahotels.co.uk/hotels/dragonfly-kings-lynn/

Any questions please ask

OK - I have edited the original post now with a bit more detail. Including myself there are an additional 14 more people who have already now booked in addition to those above, so that's 20 so far. Trying to keep this a bit "low key" before the hotel realise and bump the price up, I'll post it on Facebook later today probably as well.

In case there is any doubt, hotel rooms are, or will be, like rocking horse manure on a weekend in July - especially anywhere in Norfolk - yes even King's Lynn  - so I wouldn't recommend leaving it to the last minute to book.
And in one form or another, it would seem unlikely that this little meet-up would be totally illegal by July.

Nearer the time we'll firm-up a plan on restaurant bookings etc. - I would guess we'll be able to pretty much do the "normal thing", give or take.
