Hi all,

I had a quick search, and didn't see a definitive answer. Forgive the fool!

Will the exhaust be supplied with a like for like threaded hole for the lamda sensor? Am i right in thinking it would be better to have one (or 2) and have them plugged, than not have them at all?

I understand that I can run it open looped, but I don't really know what that means, or the implications. :?

If it's better not to hijack the thread, could someone post a link? What have previous owners gone with??

Cheers guys,

A

My idiot's understanding of open loop is that you're removing the lambda feedback loop of sensing the emissions through the cat and then adjusting accordingly to keep the various emissions below the Californian 1981 levels.

Open loop is simpler and better once you're losing the cat, unless you're a stickler for originality.

That's my understanding, I'm sure others on here will correct and expand where appropriate!

The oxygen sensor is a sensor to feed back into the fuel computer to adjust the pressure biasing in the fuel distributor to give a stoichiometric radio of air to fuel (14.7 : 1) for most efficient operation of the catalytic converter.

The trouble is, this is effectively a "bolt on" to k-jet, and the correct operation of the k-jet mechanically has to be correct.

Unfortunately previous owners etc mess about with the fuel mixture and vac pipes and it all doesn't work "in harmony". Eg base mechanical fuel mixture set rich so the engine hunts until the lambda switch switch disengages to allow oxygen sensor feedback for closed loop which then attempts to lean it off. It idles nice but has laggy throttle response with an extra rich mixture. ....

without understanding of seeing it up, the general consensus is to set it to "open loop"
Dump the catalytic converter, disconnect the oxygen sensor and set the fueling to 1.0-1.5 co.

Nothing wrong with the above, but a lot of the time the oxygen sensor is left connected to the fuel computer and the mixture set to 1.0-1.5 co. Unfortunately the base reading is now actually > 3.0

In short, with the rolling Road results with the performance exhaust, you can run open our closed loop as long as the primary pressure is set to 5.3-5.4 bar and fueling set to stock, open loop or not.

I use closed loop as it gives better fuel economy, and I'm a tight git...

I'll shut up now
