Buttoning things up now, the dmc timing cover installed on my Volvo engine. I don’t know if they are any different, but it was easier to clean :)

Next up is fitting the belt pulley, and the alternator. Then I’ll move on to adjusting the valve clearance and putting on the covers, temporarily. I’ll have to check the clearance again soon, since I’ve installed all new parts in the valve train.

Maybe I’ll install the water pump and y pipe as well, while the engine is on the stand. But not the intake, I will need to get to the clutch slave.

Hopefully things are accelerating now, this whole new engine ordeal has set me back at least three months, (and some money, but I try to pretend not).

Great fun though :)

Thanks guys!

Today I torqued down the crank pulley, and then I went on to set the valve clearance.

Next up was setting the timing scale on the timing cover correctly, it required only minimal adjustment. I also fine tuned the distributor timing according to the markings.

I was gonna fit the timing covers too, but it turned out that no-one had cleaned them. I left them to soaking in white spirit.

But before all this I spent some time setting up my brand new pressure washer! :)

I’m gonna try to clean them using the pressure washer :D Hopefully it works out, because I’m getting somewhat tired of the endless cleaning...

Timing covers installed, along with the three cams end plates. The alternator also found its plac, and I went on to fit the water pump.

It turned out that one of the bolt holes was a 9mm ?!!!

I guess a previous owner had it drilled and re-tapped to that dimension. I couldn’t fin a 9mm bolt, so that effectively stopped my progress today.

Oh, I even located the dip stick. And got to test drive a friends newly purchased Porsche 924. Looks like I have more k-jetronic work coming my way.

The 924 is a simple 40 year old car, when you drive cars from the seventies you realize how much modern cars have evolved. The particular individual car my friend got, has a misfire and trouble idling. I guess my k-jet knowledge will come in handy :)

Today I prepped my Volvo y-pipe for installment, only to find it doesn’t fit the rear piece of the dmc water pump.

So either I have to disassemble the wp and fit the Volvo back end, or use the dmc y-pipe. I don’t have a gasket handy...
