DAY TWO

Postby ALEXAKOS » Sat Aug 10, 2013 10:58 am

Another hour and a half in my garage working on my rear fascia.

I know nothing you ain't seen before. And nothing that requires skills. The disassembly is a no brainer really.:chairfall:

Tail lights off, Centre plate off.
PS All you following the MAROON STICKER STORY. That sticker has a reflective background. Hence the glow when I take flash photos. Makes it harder to make a repro....
Image

How do you like them apples???

All but one, screws snapped when I screwed the off. And they were not rusty all the way through... Gives me a fright of what happens to screws on the engine block...
Image
Sorry for the daze....

So My lower fascia has no screws left to get it back on the heat protector.
Image

Will have to create some other way to mount it on.

Fascia down.
Image

Naked booty
Image

aaaand the engine's rear
Image

Notice all the spots I WD-40ed them! hahahahaha
That is my second bottle already. (2 bottles in 3.5 hours that is!)

Here I noticed some old coolant leak by the water pump.
Image

From a quick glance the VOD seems clean.

DAY FOUR

Postby ALEXAKOS » Sat Aug 10, 2013 10:59 am

Not much done, but some progress is always welcome;)
Those are out of the way...
Image

giving a better view of the rusty trouble on the rusty exhaust system
Image

Bought my self a mini handheld camera spy. Was looking inside my engine and them valves are in bad shape! This engine must have run for several miles with a very bad fuel/air mixture
Image

Lost EVERY hope there was to unscrew those trunk covers. I even cut a screwdriver slot in order to get them loose.. Only manage two. All the rest just turns crazy....:( Need to cut those out.
Image

Then started on the front system disassembly.

My 997 exhaust arrived today and I placed it in position for fitting testing.
Nick was right. I need to have the manifold got around the frame to connect to the exhaust.
Also on Nick's well noticed speculations, the exhaust barrels are quite large and will have to mod the rear fascia's lower part.

I tried the fitting with the system up side sown to have the bulky part on the top

Here are the images

Damn that crank pulley is tough to open!

I stabilized the crank with tension mounting straps with the frame!
That damn crank was pulling the frame together!!!!

Anybody have another way of getting this done?
I can't:
Push the car (got no wheels)
Start the engine (got no battery)
I am aware of both those tricks. That damn crank disk does not have any holes to stabilize it!

See here my failed effort:

ere is some work for you guys!

As you can see the interior is in GREAT shape as opposed to the exterior condition.

The frame's left side is also more heavily corroded. I guess it was parked outside and was loaded with every winter's salt on the road side

Leverage gives to tiny David the strength of Goliath.
Image

Like wise I am back to tackle that Crank pulley.... after 3 days of efforts and read several threads with most people having failed it.

I use for extra leverage the hydraulic lift's bar as an extension of my tool.
Image
If I need more power... I simply extend it :blahblah:

Next I blocked my flywheel with two sturdy screwdrivers. One horizontally right over the original position of the starter
Image
and the other diagonally pressed between the flywheel and the anti sway bar.
Image

I started giving it some pressure.... extended my leverage bar... Then some more.... and suddenly.... CRACK!!!!

CAN YOU FEEL THAT!????
HUH? CAN... YOU.... FEEL... THAT...

Image

SUCK IT CRANK PULLEY BOLT!!!
Image

Sorry I had to do that after a weeks fight!:banghead:
Image

So having that said and done here are my images of the cylinder heads and valves....:mooning:
What a mess....
Image

Image

Coolant has created a gew all over those....

and the valves... Oh man....

Image
Image

That car must have been sitting for 8 years and somebody filled it up with fluids and just took it for a drive... until it finally died on him. RIP
