It's on the list!

How do you mean 'all over'? There's only one! (visible)

That's enough! Although I suspect the spec of blue at the bottom of the picture could be a second..... Well probably not, but it's blue! 8-)

the top one is a crimp style connector, the bottom one is indeed a scotchlock, and the 2 blue spots bottom right are tape. Tape? yes, tape..

Wow. Pulling the console has some seriously positive side effects:

As posted on DMCTallk
My AC lights only come on with the headlights on, and not just with the keys. All the wiring is as it it supposed to be, so not like Bitsyncmaster said with a jumper. The resistor and relay were all in place. Lights were good.
I decided to investigate.

As it turns out, there was an 87B relay in the socket for the A/C illumination panel, and there was a 87A relay in the Mail Fuel socket. To clarify: a 87A relay is a relay that switches either one pin or the other, while a 87B relay is used to switch two pins at the same time.

That main fuel relay should drive the frequency valve, but as I dont have one it had no negative effect. However, the use of the 87B relay in the A/C illumination panel had a bad habit of shorting the lights thereby NOT lighting up with the key, and with reduced brightness with the headlamps on.

Let me summarize: the a/c panel only lit up partial because of the resistor never had it's full brightness.

The fact of the matter is that my an Elglow dash was connected to these lamps, and that I was never satisfied about because of the lack of brightness. Now I know why.

Thanks to the PO for swapping those relays!

Makes you wonder what else I find in here.

its amazing how much PO's mess about with the wiring. If i could I'd like to put in new wiring looms all round.....

I've had the whole interior of my car out for cleaning and repair. Its amazing what you can find hidden in the car....screw drivers, US coins, various nuts and bolts, small children etc....

i cleaned all my carpets in the bath. That really pi$$ed off the girlfriend. It was great fun.

Well i've finished all the soldering:

- resoldered all the radio wiring, ground, power, switched power, illumination (new!), 8x audio
- spliced the lighting wires and properly connected the radio and the speedhut el sheet gauges
- resoldered dubious connections to the cigarette lighter socket and bulb,
- resoldered connections to the window switches
- rerouted the audio wiring for front and back speaker with proper car stereo speakers cable.

Also, I've refitted the radio, checked all vacuum hoses, and basically refitted the hvac console.. I've double-checked all connections to make sure it is all ok when I replace the console at a later stage. The console will be dismantled until I get a shot at taking out the seats and the carpeting to install some sound proofing on the firewall. That also gives me a chance to reconnect the rear speakers.

The console came out much easier than I thought. I was amazed by the easy access it gives you when it's out. All in all a Saturday well spent!
