Off they come!

Image
Don't rub down without gloves

Image
Hmm, need a bit of attention. Where's that filler tub..? Sore thumbs here we go!

Image
First edge done.

Image
Filler on ready to sand.

Image
Baby soft

Image
Ready for painting!

Image
First coat of 'special' paint.

Image
Second coat of paint, then with the blue metallic dust.

Image
With camera flash. This is how they were portayed on the hero car all those years ago, we always assumed they were blue from old school cameras, but they are infact grey with a blue tint.

Image
Decided to clear coat my rusty bolts while the boxes were drying. This keeps the weathered look, but stops them eating into the paint when rain gets to them.

Image
With the coated bolts and plates back on, and flux lighting back in.

Other side.

Onto the final flux boxes, by far the most difficult but most rewarding.

Image
As they were initially. Less than ideal finish with a few chips and bubbles. Not noticeable to most, but may as well smooth them off whilst prepping.

Image
The metal plates off to reveal the securing bolts.

Image
First flux box off!

Image
This has bugged me since it arrived. Again, a small thing, but something I wanted to correct whilst the bands were off. The rubber mount wasn't fixed directly in the middle of the t-panel so the flux band was off centre, but the other side was ok. I suspect this was when the muppet transport driver damaged the rear flux box on the first transport attempt, and it had to be repaired quickly!! Time to drill a fresh hole and fill the other.

Image
The first box had a chip above the top of the flux band hole, so decided to get the filler out and repair it properly. Also used some P400 to sand the boxes down and have a super smooth finish.

Image
After the first few coats of primer.

Image
This was after the finishing coat of 'special' paint that Joe advised me of (cheers buddy!) Again with flash on.

Image
First box fixed back onto the roof and the bolt hole resealed.

Image
Final shot after all the bolts were reinserted. :)

Cheers Alex. I'm with you on that one, I just never really had to to reflect on tiny details for the first year with excitement and a few events I had on. Now winter is here, I'm doing a few upgrades and really enjoying doing the research and that all important man time in the garage :)

The winter project continues!

This time, the lower sections of the bumpers which have needed doing for a while now since having the upper sections done in the Alfa silver (cheers Wardy)

Image
Firstly, some 180 then 400s across the whole bumper, and filling some deep scratches.

Image
Mask her up!

Image
I then sprayed the bumper with texture paint to give it that nice mottled bumper effect, as it was way too smooth. FInished off with a few coats of u-pol bumper spray.

Image
Ta daaaa!

Image
A close up of the texture spray as a base coat.

What's an update thread without a DeLorean logo ;)

For the eagle eyed *cough, Mike* yes I will be spraying the little section below the bumper in silver! That's for another day when I can be bothered mixing the 651A again ;)

Such an inspiration your texture prior to paining the bumper!!!!!!!!!!!
Mind if I follow that example?
BTW I just noticed how much he top of the rear fascia as suffered from the weight sitting on it...
Any plans on how to pick that up?

Cheers! Go ahead buddy. It's expensive but amazing stuff!

X4 fine grain. Looks superb and looks brand new!

You can either leave it like that, or go over the top with proper bumper spray. I perdonally found that the texture spray was a little too matte and the bumper spray gives it just a tiny bit of shine.

Regarding the bumper being a bit slopped, there's really nothing you can do. They all do that. You really don't notice it when it's on ground level.
