The rack and pinion parts should be fine. The other plastic bits in my rack were fine too, although not difficult to remake, again, if you know someone with a lathe.

Maybe Dan or Jason could make a job lot of these plastic bushes if they are the weak points on the rack.

Have you got a diagram of the bush with dimensions on Thomas?

Even making it to the measurements taken using a vernier gauge, it still needed a bit of work to fit properly - so you could get a lot made, but they would need a little trimming for each rack.

Top work !

Mind you, if the rack can be re-done for £35 with bushes changed that would be a godsend !

As I said can get the bits anyway.
But for £35 + VAT its comes back like new with new bellows etc, is it worth taking a chance?

35+vat is definately a bargain, but I did enjoy opening up the rack to see the inner workings (of which there arent many lol)

Hi Guy's

Yes I have a spare rack....and a lathe, I was planning on stripping my old one down and finding where the play is, and refurbing it myself.
When I got my car I reduced some of the wear by removing the oval plate at the top of the rack in front of the steering link and fitting a shim under the spring. This holds the rack onto the pinion, but if the pinion or rack is worn then I doubt £35 would fix it. I'll check the wear here when I get it apart.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Regards
D

Hopefully its not the pinion or rack worn, they are hardened steel. Has anybody ever came across these items damaged through normal driving?

So if Darren C has a spare, or failing that maybe Chris N? then a quick referb and swap 'tec' on the 15th? Hows that sound Simon?

That sounds great to me! I don't have much in the way of tools, but I have borrowed two ramps, a trolley jack and a small hydraulic jack etc. If people can give me a list of what would likely to be needed I can go and invest in some bits. If you guys think that a refurbished rack is the best option then lets go with that.

:)

Thanks,

Simon

How can anyone own a DeLorean and not have a load of tools to back them up? :P
