So if Darren C has a spare, or failing that maybe Chris N? then a quick referb and swap 'tec' on the 15th? Hows that sound Simon?

That sounds great to me! I don't have much in the way of tools, but I have borrowed two ramps, a trolley jack and a small hydraulic jack etc. If people can give me a list of what would likely to be needed I can go and invest in some bits. If you guys think that a refurbished rack is the best option then lets go with that.

:)

Thanks,

Simon

You will need a ball joint separator to remove the track rod ends from the hub assembly:

I have used the Scissor type removers for years and they don't destroy the rubber boot if used carefully.
Halfords web site, in search field type in:
Laser Ball Joint Separator Scissors

if the web link does not work:

For safety always use Axle stands if you do any work under the car. Safety First !

Chances are you will have to get the car alignment (geometry) re-done afterwards.

Hi,

Well I jacked up the car and had a quick look without getting uder the car... the wheel does have some play from the end of the rack, and there is a clonking noise from the joint if turn the wheel. There is not a huge amount of play though, and everything seems secure. I guess the rack is just a bit worn then. Axel stands and splitter will arrive this week, so will be set for the 15th if thats still ok? :)

Fixed number plate light.. without losing the metal screw plate down the back of the fascia :) I seem to have several loose connections on the car that only show themselves up at mot time. I checked that everything was working beforehand as well.

Not looking good for the replacement rack thanks to royal mail!

Still we can pull your rack off on Sunday and then can pop up one evening maybe next week to put it back.

You up for the Lunch at Arran's place in Norfolk after Simon?
